What do folks here consider the sweet spot for winch capacity? I'm thinking 9000lbs should be more than enough for a 1st gen?

    Anybody have an opinion? :)

I think a 9000lb would be fine aswell. 12000 is what my friend has on his f350 farm truck.

8000#, nothing more needed as long as you use it properly and have a snatch block

9,000lbs is plenty for a first gen, you shouldn't have any issues. A friend of mine has an old Warn 8000 and it's never not been able to pull him out.

9,000 is perfect, take into account mud or rocks also putting stress on it so the higher power the butter as long as it's under 10k. Above that I thing the mounting plate bolts are spread farther apart.

I've heard from the ol' timers that a general rule of thumb for winch selection is 1.5 times the vehicle's weight that it's being installed on.

This is a trick Question these is no real good answer .

So many different applications one can have .

Recovery of wayward shopping carts in the outback of the mall

Sunk into the Mud deep enough you can`t open the door

Then I have seen such poor Winch wiring it was lucky if you had 1000 pounds of winching capacity on your new 8000 pound winch (Most of these seem to prefer Wire nuts)

Get the biggest Winch you can afford that does not put the front of truck on the ground

In my Misguided youth I ran a 12,000 pound Hydraulic Winch on my 3/4 Ton Chevy
