Hey all, new taco owner here. 2017 SR5 dual.

This is an amazing resource and thank you to everyone who is willing to share the details of their empty-wallet-syndrome inducing hobby.

My question to all of you is, what should a new taco owner buy first? I'm focused more on utility and longevity.

From my browsing I've found you all suggest...

    1. Bed Mat
    2. Air Filter (what kind?)
    3. Mud Flaps

Do you agree with the order? What would you add if you are focusing on utility/convenience/maintenance?

Also considering a 3 inch leveling kit.

    Thanks,
(Heading to the taco truck in my taco)

    Armor
    RTT
    Jerry cans
    TRd Pro grille
    Light bars
    Prinsu rack

Average new taco owner spends $10,000 on mods post purchase. Are you average or above average ?

Buy whichever ones best solve whatever things you need solved.

Going out and buying a bunch of stuff just because thats what others do isn't the path to wise purchase decisions.
    • Bed mat is great for keeping stuff from sliding around, but if you don't have that problem you don't need to solve it.
    • Mud flaps are great for cutting down on stone throws and kicking up mud (duh), but not necessarily needed if you stay on the highways all the time, and possibly detrimental if you do serious rock crawling.
    • Air Filter? Meh, I've not felt a need to change out the filter. I've bought into the hype in years past and never noticed a discernible difference. Other may have, depends on what other changes you make to the overall system.

Bought mine used, so I'm buying crap that fixes what is/was messed up. Then I'll move up from that.

I see what you did there... ;)

    Pretty sure the OP's SR5 isn't push-to-start though... :)

    • Step bars/sliders are good for either rocks bouncing up or off roading.
    • Bug/rock deflector
    • Undercoat it
    • Husky/Weathertech floor liners (I bought weathertech and the fit kind of sucks)
    • Center console divider (turns into a box-O-cluster eff without it)
    • Tonneau/shell
    • Decent ratchet straps
    • Recovery strap

I've got a 2017 on order and the first thing I plan on buying for it is a set of WeatherTech floor liners. The next thing will probably be new clips to reuse my Yakima rack.

Go with Huskys. Front what I've read, the weathertechs don't seem to fit as well. I have had the Husky X-act contours for a few months now and have zero complaints.

Yep, add on Drone Mobile for some added functionality.

I understand one of the Fortin units works with keyed Tacomas as well, I forget if it's the EVO-ALL or EVO-ONE. There's a thread on it somewhere here.

my buddy has weather techs and they fit perfectly in his gen 2. I just put them in my gen 3 last night and don't know how they could fit better. I made the mistake of putting the Toyota mats in my truck when I ordered it. That was a mistake. passenger side slides around and the driver side doesn't give adequate coverage.

Those Husky X-Act fits were awful in my 2015, massive gaps along the transmission tunnel, I ended up returning them for Weathertechs.

    1. Husky Xact Contour mats - seriously. Before buying, I couldn't see how people could justify ~$200 on mats, but now that I have them, I completely understand. And yes, the fit is better than the Weathertechs
    2. Bed Mat- it just works.
