Nice! Is that topper built specifically for the Taco? I'm wondering if I can fit a Chevy Colorado topper on my second gen tacoma

Done a bit of mapping in my day - work in the engineering field. Just waiting for the Magnum RT side steps to arrive.

The topper couldn't have been specifically built for the Taco as it has an ugly gap against the box by the cab (not sure why they designed the dip in the box at the back by the cab rather than keeping it the same height as the sides). And the previous owner just filled it by silicon'ing in some extra weatherstripping. Will have to pull it and see what can be done this summer.

A couple more pic's (think someone asked what the barn doors looked like and the sides as well).

I also had to mod the back-up camera to work with the Leer canopy.

The real way to tell if it's for the Tacoma is to look how the topper sits on the side bed rails. The bed rail is thicker (wider) at the front of the truck than at the back. It looks like the lower edge of the topper is pretty even to the outer edge of the bed rail in your pictures, which would mean to me that it was built with the bed shape in mind.

I've seen the ugly gap you're talking about before on the very front. I'm not sure why Toyota did it like that, it's pretty silly. AFAIK, none of the canopy companies are designing for that either. One of the canopy installer guys I talked with said that they had to double up on the rubber seal to get it to stay shut. There is at least one guy on here making and selling a metal replacement bed rail cap. It looks like it has a much lower profile than the factory plastic ones and might be an alternative to the extra seal up front.

Leer does offer a backup camera that's integrated into the 3rd brake light, supposedly it's plug and play. You can find 'em online for considerably cheaper than what they sell for though Leer. I had priced out a topper very similar to yours but my relationship with the dealer went sour and I've gone a different route. I've always really liked how the barn doors make the truck look. I personally don't like canopies where the back slopes forward. The bed is small enough as it is without losing that extra space.

Hope you enjoy your truck

Thought about the back-up camera up high with the 3rd brake light but the guy I bought the truck from had a license plate bracket one but he never installed it. I tried the view from as far up the door that the tailgate cable would reach and the license plate and preferred the view with it at the license plate.

The license plate one had a plastic bracket that didn't seem too sturdy and only had three wires (the Tacoma seems to have four). So I decided, with the camera pulled from the tailgate, to fab a steel bracket, paint it black and voila - back-up camera mounted.

I drive by your truck every morning on my way to school... was my inspiration to get the DCC Canopy too (and now looking to get the same glass back doors as you as i dont have windows)

If its not too late there is a local fabricator in Sooke named brad who makes sliders at killer prices.. probably close to what your getting regular side steps for

Crap, wish I would have known that. I even asked around by didn't get anywhere. Had to put a deposit down for the Magnum's and they are enroute.

Welcome from Alberta. Love the colour combo with the light grey canopy/dark grey truck.
