I have a 2014 DCSB with a camper shell. I will be moving to Boston this summer. Does anyone have any experience with driving a Tacoma in a city all the time? I'm concerned about the size of a truck versus getting a smaller suv/car when it comes to parking and getting around.

I work in our local "city". Streets and parking spots are pretty narrow similar to a bigger city anyway. This has actually been one of my favorite things about this truck, it does get around that environment pretty well. I have a buddy that has an F250 and he has a hell of a time getting around the city.

Keep in mind it isn't a car, but it does do pretty well for what it is.

    You'll be fine.

Get good a parallel parking. Then practice it even more. Know exactly where the front of your truck is, and how close you can get in the rear view camera before you touch, or how far you roll back when switching from reverse to park.

Driving is fine. Parking is fine too, if you do your part.

Each city is different but being the shorter wheel base you'll have few issues. The backup camera is key to success, I love terrifying people when I parallel park.

That said it's not an ideal city cruiser, if I had to commute to my downtown every day I would certainly own a different vehicle.

Lived in L.A. for 5.5 years. Didn't have a problem. Couple of close calls with some low parking garages lol. Nice having a truck when the shitty drivers are out though... little intimidation factor.

Compared to the old Silverado with an 8' bed, it's a peach.

Compared to the Honda Fit, it's a ridiculous boat.

On the spectrum it's a hair larger than your normal every day CUV, but not huge. Just a hair above average.

I don't live in the city, but drive enough in it. Parallel parking will be OK and surface lots tight, but parking garages are the enemy.

Parking won't kill ya -- it'll be the Boston drivers. (But you have size/intimidation on your side.)

I drive to Downtown Seattle nearly every weekend. And i daily the Tacoma, so when i'm driving in the city it gets pretty hectic, because a lot of the Seattle streets are narrow, so you really have to be on your A-game in focus and driving. It is stressful a lot of the time, but worth it if you love what the city has to offer in terms of entertainment, culture, scenery, etc.

Live in philly, work in philly. Hate philly. Only plan on being here another year or 2 because the entire city is an overcrowded dump :sorry:.

Street parking for me, no problems here. Like everyone else said, backup camera is key. It took me a little while to get used to my front end too, you have a lot more room then you think you do.

City living is one of the reasons I got a tacoma, otherwise might have gone the tundra route.

I live and work in downtown Atlanta, no issues with street or deck parking, and def not with driving around. Biggest thing is barely fitting in spots in my deck at work, easiest thing i have found is just always back in and use the back up camera, that way you don't have to back out of a tight spot. I'm only mildly lifted though, 884's and 1.5" aal. Parallel is easy with the short bed.

Oh, one other small thing... I did take some bolt cutters and chop off about 6-8 inches from my antenna, until it was level with the top of the cab. It was really annoying that it would hit pipes, signs, etc... in all of the parking decks. Haven't noticed any change in reception.

Speaking of the backup camera, it is a godsend in angled parking.

I'm primarily in the city and parallel parking with the rear view camera is cake in the Tacoma. I also have a '14 DCSB. A Tundra might give you some issues, but the Tacoma is just fine.

DCLB. City lot with a narrow alley, in and out of several parking garages for work. I have "a spot" in each garage I park at that is usually available and I'm familiar with where I need to be.

The backup camera is super helpful - BUT - do not over rely on it or it will bite you.

When I'm out running errands around the city I use the size to justify parking an extra couple blocks away. I can usually find a less crowded spot so parking is easier, keeps door dings down and I don't mind a little extra walking.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I live in Houston and have a 2014 DCSB master race truck.

Parking isn't too troublesome. Most of the time I can still wedge into spots. There are older lots that have narrower parking, but they also have street or grass parking that I take advantage of.

As far as garages, after a moderate lift, my antenna will sometimes hit things in parking garages. But I've never been unable to make it into one.

Do yourself a favor and get some sliders. Your doors will thank you.

If you're going to drive a pickup in city, then Tacoma's your best option.
But I gotta say, if you're hauling just your self around in city, there isn't much better than a smart fortwo. Some might say a smaller motorbike, but they're not so much fun in the winter.

They aren't terrible in the city. You will need to search for parking that will fit it though.
