    Lessons learned and information sharing.

This is my design and mod for:
    1. Install Front Camera.
    2. Use Front or Rear Camera at anytime regardless the vehicle in forward/reverse motion or in park gear.
    Why:
    1. To see what happening in my rear during towing/waiting at traffic light (how close the vehicle park behind me...etc.
    2. To see the gap between my front bumper and the object in front.
    3. To help parking in tight spot.
    4. to show off my mod.

    BOM (bill of materials).
    1. One of relay
    2. One of DPDT toggle switch or OEM style
    3. One of the push switch or this switch (depend on the hole in your dashboard).
    4. CCD Camera that I am currently use. I am looking for a better one with higher tvl such as mirror camera
    5. Mini tap for 12v acc.
    6. If you don't know how to solder then you may use quick splices. (not recommended).

Great write up, thanks for the info! One question of clarification I had - so pins 12 and 24 on the 24 pin connector are the inputs for the OEM rearview camera?

    Correct.

There is another method that you can feed video signal into the HU beside pin 12 and 24. But I don't want to share right now, it will confuse people.

In the near future, I will do it.

Respectfully, I wouldn't even link those. Not only are they mostly the worst type of tap, but I'm pretty sure those wires are 24ga at best. None in that kit are the right size for that.

If someone must use taps instead of soldering, I'd suggest PosiTaps and choose the correct gauge.

Good write-up, I think. I have no idea how to read electrical schematics but wish I did. I'd love to be able to put in a front camera and switch between the two as needed.

@mthopton check out briguydiy.com for prebuilt solutions for the harness/switching part. You'd still need to wire and power a front camera.

Have you thought about adding front proximity sensors as well?

This is awesome... I have a few questions.

Is the wiring the same for the JBL radio?

Am I understanding how this operates correctly?
    1. Press OEM style "camera" switch to activate camera anytime mod
    2. Switch DPDT selector switch to toggle between rear and front camera

If DPDT camera selector switch is left on front camera input and I shift to reverse, what camera (if any) will show up on the screen? (assuming OEM style "camera" switch is off)

    1. JBL or not, wiring is identical.
    2. Press S1 to activate Cameras at anytime.
    3. If dpdt is switched to front, S1 is off and shift to reverse then screen is dark (no image/video).

Is there a factory "looking" spdt switch? Literally, if we had this, we would only need the one switch... yes?
*btw, appreciate your write up... just waiting on some specifics. I want a camera for the TRD Pro grille. :)

Yes, there is factory looking spdt switch, just click on top post as red arrow indicated:
    upload_2017-2-14_13-8-17.jpg

You can do with one switch per @Abec23 drawing but will required 2 diodes.

For me, I don't want any diodes (just me), just mechanical parts for easy maintenance and longevity.
