I was near a HF yesterday and went in to actually look and touch one of the splitters and they had that $29.00 you sent the link for. I didnt realize it was as big and solid appearing as it really was. A bit thick, would have to do some grinding to get some of the metal and paint off. As I previously mentioned.. I don't like HF tools and try to avoid buying them but I will say this item does look like it would work for what I need it too. I'm still thinking I'm just going cut it off. Should be doing the repair Tues or Wed when the rest of my stuff gets here. I'll follow up.....

    Wait for it...
Not trying to thread jack but I was in the same situation with the hub off, ready to press & the splitter we had didn't fit. Hella awkard to even mount it & that damn 4 hole nut!?! Who does that!?! And who has the tool for it? I still have my bearing in the box.

I believe HF splitter is useless If I remember it right. We just find what ever metal that will work and just stack them up. Press the hub out of the bearing.

You have pics? I believe the prerunner hubs are different than 4X4, but I don't know in what ways. For 4x4 hubs, the most effective way to remove the inner race from the hub is to make 2 or 3 cuts into the race111111. That will release tension and the race slides out with relatively ease.

That's exactly what I have to do on bottom inner race after hub got press out.

20170208_160143.jpg Cutting it off actually ended up being very easy. I didn't even have to cut all the way though. I hit it with a hammer and chisel once I thought I was deep enough and it started to slide right off. So I would say for ease... just cut it off.

This entire repair was pretty easy, the only thing I didn't take into account was I needed some 1/2 flat stock to use with the press since it was a tight fight to between the inner and outer hub. Went to local metal fab joint and got two piece cut 3' wide and a foot long for $19.00. That was the only stumble..

I can see that; the ends are threaded. No wonder they cost more. When I separated the hub from the bearing assembly, I had to press out the studs to get my plate in between.
