    Custom Headlights underway!

    Summary:
    -Hella 90mm projector low beams
-off brand LED projector high beam (no beam cutoff like a DOT low beam projector)
-low profile steel housing. pop-up lights will only raise up ~4'' vs the stock ~8''

measured out the face plate. though the pop-up cover is larger than 8'', this will give me the proper width to hit the factory pivot points.

    2017-02-12 17.40.01.jpg

don't have a 3-3/16'' hole saw, so freehand plasma was my only other option. torch got away from me a little in the lower right corner, so i'll round it out with a flapper wheel on the die grinder. tonight I'm going to build a little adjustable circle jig for the torch that will let me cut perfectly round holes. should make the rest go a lot easier.

    2017-02-12 18.28.30.jpg

This is pretty spot on to how far the projector will protrude past the face of the plate.

    2017-02-12 18.29.24.jpg

I need to test the LED projector out tonight, to verify is truly bright enough. if it is, i'll likely take it out of the little steel cage it's in, and mount it in a similar fashion to the Hella.

    2017-02-12 18.30.22.jpg

the hardest part of this project will be to get the geometry right, so that when you hit the headlight switch, the lights raise up to the right height and aim. more to come on that after I finish building the housings for the lights.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
This has nothing to do with your headlight setup, but I just saw this ad, thought you might like to check it out.

    http://www.collectorcarnation.com/Pontiac/182751174/1988-Pontiac-Fiero.html

I had a customer that had two fieros, one he bought new for his wife, and she passed suddenly from cancer, he kept it for 15 years up on a lift in his shop, only had 2000 miles on it, fully loaded, v6, he just couldn't get rid of it because of sentimental reasons. He ended up trading it for an camaro, but he had it for sale for $15k back in 05. That for sale ad reminded me of his immaculate fiero.

    wow.....that price tag

beautiful car with insanely low miles, but I can't say I've ever seen a stock fiero listed for that much.

My 75 y/o father has an '87 GT that had a bad 2.8 in it when he got it. It has now came back to life with a 3.4l from a late 90's Camaro/Firebird. His initial plans were a 3800 series 2 supercharged but decided the 3.4 was less of a headache. He drives his Fiero everywhere and loves the car. He is now getting ready to install a remote power steering unit on it.

at 75, that's true passion to keep doing what you love at that level. while common, the 3800 supercharged yields some not so fun headaches regarding fitment and overheating potential. good move with the 3.4L.

it's an addicting car to drive. I'm always smiling behind the wheel, much like the tacoma. my Tacoma has been my daily driver for the last 10 years, but now I only drive it once every week or two. granted that was the point, so I could work on the Tacoma without having to have it drivable by the next morning, but I never thought I'd be driving it so little. taking the Tacoma up into the mountains this weekend, and I already know I'm going to feel weird in the truck for the first part of the drive while I readjust to sitting with my seat at the height of the roof of the fiero...

Finished up the first face plate for one side.

Hella low beam mounts up nicely with adjustable spring loaded bolts. High beam will have a tab welded on the back side for the aluminum housing to mount to.

Tested out the LED projector high beams. They are a spot beam, and way brighter than I thought they would be. Should work quite well.

Also, my redneck circle guide for the plasma cutter. Jose clamps, zip ties, and a nail. Secure the nail at the proper radius for your circle, and drill a hole in the center of the plat for the nail to go in.
