    Hello Tacoma Community,

First time on here so pardon if any of the questions have been answered!

I am a little fumbled on what to do. I got the TRD Pro with the upgraded suspension and so do want to put it to waste. But am running into an issue as I want to run bigger wheels and tires than stock. (building it to go from CA to Cabo San Lucas)

Would it be fine just to add a body lift and level kit as well as an extra or different leaf spring to support the weight of the camper shell and some other items like a RTT.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Whatever you do, do not get a body lift! I would also advise you to stay way clear of any kind of "level kit" or "spacer lift". These will ruin the ride, and possible damage your nice fox coilovers. Unless you absolutely need to get more lift, I wouldn't touch the front coilovers, but if you do, you could sell the stock unit and buy an aftermarket fox coilover. As far as the rear, for added weight carrying abilities, I would get the Icon Progressive Add-A-Leaf, which goes into your stock leaf pack. It will give you an additional inch of lift, while increasing your load carrying abilities. If I were you I would just do the Add A Leaf and call it a day.

Thanks you for replying, this really puts me on the right path for more research.

    1. As far as for the rear don't i still need to add some spacer in order to keep my stock fox shocks, even if I add the Icon Progressive Add A Leaf?
    2. So ill need to buy coilovers that are already will give me the 3 in lift, correct?

    Thanks,

    Mike

No problem! Happy to help out.

When you say "spacer to keep your stock fox shocks" are you talking about the rear suspension?

This would be a comparable coilover unit to what you have now, except the spring rate will be stiffer and it is adjustable.

Yes, I am talking about the rear. I would not really want to double invest in front and rear lol.

    Still waiting for it
First 285/70/17 fit with only the most minor plastic trimming.

Your not getting 3 inches of lift without replacing the Pro suspension.

Shock spacers for the rear are pretty much only for 6inch+ lifts, as it is hard to get an appropriate length shock to work in that setting.

As far as your application, with the Icon AAL, you would probably be fine using the stock length shock, because you would only be gaining an inch of lift in the rear. The only time that you could potentially run into problems is if you really flexed the rear suspension pretty often, as you would be potentially over extending the shock, which could damage it. You would be fine, people do it all the time.

That is pretty much what I will end up doing.

So for the front, do I need just new coils or all the upper and lower arms as well?

Not sure why you bought a Pro then. It's setup the way it was meant to be setup.

You can buy everything you mentioned. Buy a front spacer and a add a leaf or pack of deavers. Don't waste your money buying new suspension.

It will go where you say you want to take it just fine stock. I've done worse in my stock TRD OR with the same tires and less lift.

depending on what offset you have on your wheels.
and you might need a CMC

Or you'll just rub at full lock and if any flex in the suspension.

I got 2017 taco trd 4x4 sport, and got a 6" lift with a 20" rims with 34" tire, it rub a little but you can trim the plastic lip 1/2 " off, but I have a traction control sensor problem or a yaw problem, can't figure it out yet, over all it look nice.
    Tire size 295/60r20
