I will be taking delivery on a 2017 TRD DCLB sometime next week. This is a truck coming into my region that is identical to the one I had ordered and made a $1000 deposit on, one that won't even make it into the production queue until near the end of February. My deposit was on a truck that would not be delivered until late March / early April. I am happy to get the same truck sooner rather than later. Price is the same.

Unlike some, I feel like I'm not so knowledgeable / sophisticated or demanding of this purchase to expect near perfection. I'm not into "First World" problems when I'm driving a $40K vehicle that I can pay cash for and that is better equipped, well suited for its intended purposes, and more reliable than practically every other vehicle I've ever owned. And, it is also a vehicle that offers excellent resale value when I'm done using it.

But, I don't want to let my excitement cloud my inspection and final acceptance of this vehicle. What should I be looking for? What sort of test drive should I take before signing on the dotted line? I would appreciate any and all recommendations / suggestions from owners on this forum.

    Thanks.

Just remember the golden rule: nothing is perfect.

Don't expect perfection. There will be little nagging things here and there as expected with any product on the market. Read through the stickies and forum for further information.

However, the biggest "surprise" people "complain" about is the engine and trans combo. That shouldn't be a deterrent, just a FYI. The power band is much higher in the rev range than the 2nd gen 4L, so expect to put your go-fast-foot down a little bit more to get the truck going if you need it. For the trans, it's a double over-drive, so you may (or may not) feel it shifts to 5th and 6th too often, dropping your rpms down. It's done for gas mileage purposes, but coupled with the power band higher in the rev range, you may feel it's "slow" or "sluggish" due to the lack of torque at those RPMs. You can remedy that by using ECT mode or S mode if you'd like or again, just use the throttle a bit more. Other than that, don't pay attention to the complainers that just love to complain and expect perfection.
