Wild. Sucks this happened to you.

Out of the few reported cases for this failure, there are thousands of ICON setups going without issue. Like any manufacturer or product, there are bound to be defective and oddities within the batch. They are replacing a part that broke on a 4 year old product that's been through lord knows what, I'd say that's not a bad deal.

As far as a fix, I'd take it to a fab shop and have them cut the bend piece out and weld in a replacement top plate that's gusseted to prevent another failure.

One other thing would be to double check the measurement of threads showing above the adjusting collar. I believe with the 700# springs you aren't supposed to go over 1" due to coil binding. Since the driver side is the one that broke (and people usually crank the driver side more to help with the lean) there's a possibility that might be a contributing factor.

My buckets are straight, my preload is within spec. I'm not going to worry about it. Anymore.

Last thing I'd like to bring up is this. If the suspension hasn't been cycled correctly with aftermarket bumpstops you run the risk of compressing components that were built around stock perimeters beyond what they were designed for. If your suspension is moving further up due to a softer bump stop you'd essentially be introducing coil bind into the shock, mounting hat and coil bucket.

Please don't take my input the wrong way, as I'm not pointing fingers and saying this is the defining end all as to why this happened. For all I know everything is in fact perfect and the piece did just break because it sucks and they obviously have no clue what they're doing...

I just like to think past the pitchforks that come out when this sort of stuff happens as most of the time there are underlying factors.

Where did you get those? I really like the idea of sandwiching the top place like that.

Well that's pretty nifty. Wonder if that would allow my dirt designs brackets to clear the coilovers.

    So... Cliff notes version...

OP broke part of a nearly 4 year old coilover and Icon replaced it for free, 3 years outside of warranty?

    Fucking Icon.

After picking up the phone like a sensible human, how long did this take to sort out?

Also: how shitty was your ride with a digressive coilover in the front and a progressive shock in the rear?

Lol. Fucking ICON. At it again with the shit service.

It should break at all period. Even if it's been over the 1 year warranty. They know it's a huge flaw and they don't give a shit to fix it .

I went off the road at a 90° turn on a gravel logging road, the front right tire took the brunt of the impact. I actually broke the lower control arm, and the icon shock was unphased. Not bent, not blown, no top hat breakage, not a damn thing was wrong with the shock. Upper shock bucket is not deformed either. Preload shown in last pic with 650# coils. I have since installed 700# coils. Never experienced any coil binding during suspension cycle.
