Another 4 to 8 tomorrow night. Looks I need to put another extension on the roof rake and take another swipe at it tonight. Plus my late night. I will not be defeated. Like Lolololol

Never having had to do this, I have to ask. Do you just pull it down and move out of the way, or do you go on top of the roof and push it down. Either way sounds dangerous.

 

Most pull it down if it is at all possible I think @Tacoma Mike posted a picture of his roof rake . I have done both as we have a high pitch roof on the main house the porch roof is not as pitched. So you clear the porch roof flat rounded edge grain shovel so you do not screw up the shingles. Then pull down off the high pitch roof to the porch rinse and repeat. It is all on how your house is constructed, if you drive around you will see some places have roof hatches and permanent ladders attached to the roof to clear it. They make an electric heating wire to melt it off from the edges to prevent ice damns but most I know are afraid of them causing a fire.

I have so much to do this morning then he comes along

 

I have a rake that you pull down. The angle of the roof requires you to be far away. Since I have a 2 story I needed to buy 2 rakes and use all the pipeing I just sucks cause I need to put it up on the roof in two sections cause it bends so much. They make some with rollers you push up but I don't like going against the shingles in any way.

 

And everybody has to do this or the roof could collapse front the weight? Or it starts to melt and you get an ice dam or both?

 

It all depends on the moisture content but with this much you should be doing it. It is heavy plus the next storm is going to be heavier. We have had a few collapse so far and my buddy that plows was building an addition to his garage and it came down on his s10 and tractor. If it wasn't for this other storm coming I would leave it as is but it needs to come off before the storm.
