I am tired of popping the hood and see my engine covered with dirts and grimes so I decided to do what Toyota should have done on these trucks from the factory floors. After I bolted the newly cut splash guards on I took it in the road and seemed as if the road noise coming from the firewall had been reduced. Guys, tell me that my claim of hearing less road noise through the firewall is nothing but placebo effect cuz that's exactly what I'm telling myself. LOL.

Looks good. What did you make them out of & what are the screws going into to hold them up? Are you worried about them ripping or tearing & getting into the steering/suspension components?

These plastic-like material is quite rigid so I'm not too concern about them tearing off anytime soon. There are pre-drilled holes on the edges. I bought stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts and just bolt the splash guard up. I will continue to look for better materials that are somewhat rigid, in 1/8 inches thick, light weight, durable, and preferably fire retardant materials to replace these in the near future.

It's just a piece of plastic used as runners that I found at Menards. If tried using the Bath Pan Linners from Home Depots but they ran out of it. I also went to FleetFarms to look around but there was nothing suitable. They have heavy duty rubber-like material but it's a little too thick and too heavy to use as splash guards (in my opinion ). I also went to a Tractor supply store but there was nothing suitable for my project so I settled for a piece of runner for now. I'm curious about this too. Just replaced my front suspension and killed most of the plastic pop-rivets that held in the factory ones. Now it's noisy as those junky plastic rivets try and rattle around. I too have considered making larger slash guards. I might look for some better material.

Another member used his old mud flaps for splash guards. Though, I'm pretty sure he also had fiberglass fenders too.

I need to get to replacing mine.
