I see most people comparing different pickups but My choice was between a Tacoma and 4Runner. I still want a 4Runner also. Will do my best to convince my wife she wants a 4Runner. Tacoma- put dirty stuff in bed.

My father-in-law bought a 4Runner while I was shopping for trucks and he recommended I look at one. Wife listened to him and was convinced that we needed a 4Runner until I showed her the $10k price difference for a similarly outfitted Taco vs 4Runner and pointed out that the dogs could go in the bed of the truck when wet/muddy.

I would rather drive a mini van than a Ridgeline.

I considered following 3 other medium size trucks:
    > Ridgeline - No MT.
    > Frontier Pro-4X - No V6 Access Cab in 4x4 trim & 10+ year old design.
    > Colorado/Canyon - No MT for 4x4 model and real cheap feeling interior.

Out of above 3 trucks, Frontier came the closest with about $4000+ cheaper than Taco when similarly equipped.
Frontier drove good with strong low end torque and I liked its shorter shift lever. If I were in the market for a crew cab, I'd probably got the Nissan.

In the end I'm super happy that I got my Tacoma, since I knocked $3500 off from the window sticker price after a hard bargain.

I keep mine in garage as well because I will have to keep this truck for next 10+ years!

Exactly what I was thinking. I liked the f150 but also wanted to be doing some offroad. Also reliability and resale have no equals. Except a 4runner

    This, plus...

The Ranger timeline is still uncertain and I doubt there will be an MT option. The current diesel option only gets lower 20 mpg in the foreign market vehicles, so wasn't worth continuing to wait for. Plus, I'm not paying $40k for a truck.

The Colorado is a Chevy, and I'm no a fan. I will say, it looks like they have upped their game. I don't like the politics of bail-outs either.

The Frontier, aside from being a very outdated design, also isn't too athletically pleasing. Nissan in general has some funky hot and miss styling. There are also reports of rather poor turning radius.

The Ridgeline? Expensive, ugly, and questionable robustness for towing and off-road. In the video shoot-out I saw, it was the first one to overheat the transmission when the going got tough and had to be abandoned.

I had thoughts of Canyon until I stood directly in front of it. No wow factor for me. Drove to the Toyota dealer stood in front of the Tacoma, way more wow factor for me. Also I wanted to lift my truck a bit, the Toyota is so much supported with after market options than the others. You mentioned the interior, I like the Toyota's interior much better, I have the Limited.

Yeah, but I'm going 3.5 Ecoboost.
New 2017 has a ten speed vs the old six.
I miss the feel of having a full size truck. The 2.7 & 3.5 EB feel so much quicker than the Tacoma too.

On paper the twins beat the competition pretty much hands down. They tow more, get better mileage, and GM offers incentives on the trucks. From what I hear the new 8 speed trans and the LGZ v6 address the sluggishness of the old 6spd and LFX combo.

But, in the end, I wanted the reliability and resale value so I got the taco.

Some are friends. Others are idolized. In this case Taco is a friend and in all cases Kerrdog idolizes me. He probably has a shrine for me too
