    Hello TW,

My 2013 Taco is approaching 45k miles soon and I was wondering what kind of service should be done? The previous owner has been taking it it to Toyota for all its maintenance and I was quoted ~$800 to change oil, rotate tires, clean throttle body and fuel injectors, top off fluids and all these oil and fuel conditioners. I have a 40% coupon so it should bring that price down to around $500. Is it worth it? I plan on keeping this truck for next 6-7 years so I want to keep it maintained properly.

    Thanks in advance!

To each his own but I wouldn't do it. Seems like a crazy high price. Cleaning fuel injectors means dumping a $5 bottle of fuel injector cleaner in... not a chance they clean the throttle body.

Get the tires rotated for $20, change the oil, air filter and the spark plugs yourself if they haven't been done yet. Rear diff fluid if that wasn't done at 30K miles. Call it a day. That's all easy maintenance.

yeah, this. Thats still a lot. Doing all fluids yourself plus washers is like $100. Conditioners? What the heck is that?

Is this 4x4? Dont forget transfer and front diff, though might not be needed, especially transfer. If i remember mine (transfer) was squeaky clean.

It's a 2wd V6. Forgot to mention that they're going to do something with the power steering (replace fluid?). Feels like I'm getting conned so I'll probably hold off on the major services until 60k.

30 and 60k are the plugs, even though I could have easily got 60k out of my plugs when I took them off at 30k.

Really only 45k would be tires, oil/filter, air filter, maybe cabin air filter, diff oils(depending on when they last changed) and torque the appropriate bolts suggested in the manual.

I really don't know why toyota recommends such a fast diff oil change (every 15k for heavy towing, 30k otherwise) Every time I did it, the oil was fine. Previous vehicles could go 100k and I assume the tacoma could easily as well, but I did it anyways. Depending on your style of driving brake pads maybe needed, but that didn't seem to come up in your first post.

Do the research, if you have the tools the 45k maintenance would cost 100-150 in supplies and just your labor time.

The easiest way to handle power steering fluid replacement is to siphon out the reservoir and refill with Dex-III. It's cheap enough. Do this, drive a day or so and do again a few times or if you like flush it yourself. There are countless how-to threads here on how to do this. I always siphon/refill my PS fluid reservoir every oil change, so the fluid never gets dirty.

The dealer is trying to hose you. What else is new. All of this can be done by you.

I have the same truck you do and all I did at 45k was an oil change (oil/filter)

Check your manual. Assuming the original owner did all scheduled maintenance until now you shouldn't need an air filter/spark plugs until 60k

All those 'conditioners' are simply a rip off. Just follow the mainatence manual that came with the truck. Its quite detailed.

Of course thats not worth it. #1 stop taking the truck to the dealer. #2 you should be rotating tires every 5000 miles. Oil you can do yourself. Its 2017 your fuel injectors don't need cleaning. Fluid top offs can be done yourself AND might not even need to be done. Pop the hood and look. All of this can be done yourself for less than $100. Thats IF you need every single fluid topped off which I bet you just need an oil change.

Every 30K change air filters. Also change plugs if you havent already.

    Never heard of conditioners.

    -Oil and Filter
    -Tire Rotation
    -Inspect brakes
    -Inspect bolts that need torque
    -Lube what needs lubed

30K you should already have done plugs and rear diff fluid. Power steering fluid is just suck and fill every other oil change. I pretty much just take what is in reservoir and replace (when I used to do my own maintenance).

That's a lot of cash they want to hit you with. Maybe if they were doing the tranny fluid, brake flush, radiator fluid, and blinker fluid that would be a good price.
