Another true story... I picked my my boss's Boxer/Labrador mix up from the groomer, and she got motion sickness and puked in the center console because I was driving fast and took a turn too sharp... Now I drive like Grandma when I have the dog in the truck...

An interesting fact about me, is after my wife graduated and we were married for about 3 years, she told me she wanted to test me for fun, and she said i fell on the autism scale.

I have not had a dog in more than 7 years. My first (and only) dog was a Black Labrador named Molly. My parents got her when I almost 6, and she died when I was 20. Molly was 15 years old! Molly never actually rode in the Tacoma, as we had to put her to sleep less than 3 months after we bought. I did however lift her into the bed one time and take some pictures.

My Tacoma, then brand spanking new, is where I locked the doors, cranked AC/DC, and promptly cried my eyes out back in 2009 when we decided to put Molly to sleep.

Fast forward to the present day...

My boss has a Boxer/Labrador mix (Boxador) named Tully. She is a beautiful and friendly dog. Actually, she's friendly to people. She loves people and can be trusted around a newborn baby. She picks and chooses which dogs she likes and which dogs to attack...

Anyway, she is technically my boss's dog, but I have known Tully since she was a tiny little puppy and she is pretty much family now. She is now almost 5 years old. I love Tully so much that I go out of my way to take care of her when my boss is busy with work.

Tully regularly rides in my Tacoma, and on hot days when I have the A/C on, she will actually put her face right up to the vent. She will often lick the A/C vent in my Tacoma, leaving a little trail of slobber across the louvers. It's annoying having to repeatedly wipe down the dash, but Tully is just so damn adorable I can't be mad at her.

Video from June 2013 when Tully was just under a year old:

A video from back in 2012 when Tully was just a puppy... The woman in the video is one of my best friends and also Tully's owner. She is now my boss, though this video was made about 2 years before she became my boss... The video was posted to YouTube with her permission and has been there more than 4 years so I figured it's safe to post on TW...

Is she a certified pro in this area? The reason why I ask is that my ex-wife was a sociology major and when she was learning all her book knowledge she started diagnosing everyone she knew with BS...including me. She ended up ruining every relationship she ever had...including with her parents.

For instance, her hard working Dad who was a construction foreman, was diagnosed by her as an alcoholic because he had a couple of beers every now and then. I like to eat so I had an "eating compulsion" problem...amongst other things according to her.

Don't take what I just posted the wrong way, your wife probably is a true professional unlike my hack of an ex-wife. But I don't think a "simple" test would properly diagnose this.

Apologies up front for venting about my ex-wife...like my old truck she is "someone elses problem" now.

Be careful with these tests though. Also have a disinterested third party who is expertly certified to diagnose AS to test you.

The alcohol point has always been a funny one to me.

In the military, if we said we drank more than two beers in an hour and like four a night, once or twice a week we were all alcoholics.

So we all said we never drank....ever.

Some folks did binge drink a LOT but never admitted it and were typically squared away when the came to work.

I grew up around my extended family, who were in fact, alcoholics. They drank whiskey with their eggs at 6 in the morning. And would clear a handle of Jim Beam by dinner. THAT is an alcoholic. Drinking a six pack on a Saturday night is NOT.

For what it's worth about Asbergers syndrome.

I listened to this on the radio a couple years back. "High functioning autism" is actually what "Aspergers" is. Also, almost all humans have a form of autism in some regard. The work he did would ultimately "protect" the children by renaming "Austism" to save their lives.

"a pioneering autism education and research program in North Carolina — objected to Lorna Wing's coinage of the term "Asperger syndrome" for this reason, preferring the term "high-functioning autism."

No offense taken. My wife has a MA +EDS add on (education specialist). She could have had a doctorate for the amount of time she went to school, but before she graduated (was in her internship year), she had an adult testing kit, and she had to test someone. She couldnt test me for her report because we were together, and it had to be on someone with no relation or history to her. So for fun, before she took the test back she wanted to test me with it as well.

Honestly, im not surprised i came back on the scale, because i have alot of OCD tendancies, but its not with everything, only certain things, like if im doing any kind of carpentry work, i absolutly cannot stand the thought of it not being level, square or even cut crooked the least little bit. I always buy more boards than i should because i wanna make sure its perfect, but it makes it hard to work with me. Usually most things i have to do on my own.

Im very much a routine guy, i do not like change at all, i have gotten better with this since me and my wife have been together, but every night i still do the EXACT routine, i dont stray from it at all, my wife even gets on to me about it saying that my OCD is kicking in to hard. We have lived together for almost 8 years, and if you ask her, she can tell you exactly what i do every night before bed. If i try not to do it, and just go lay down, its to much for me, and i have to get up and go do my routine then i can come back and lay down and go to bed.

I feel to be a perfecionist on most stuff, even if i dont know anything about it, i will try my damnest to do it perfect, and im very critiqueing on other people that i work with. Some of the close guys i work with everyday have came to an understanding about this, but i cannot hardly work with anyone that i havent gotten a routine work habit with, im much better going at it alone.

Shew, sorry for the vent, never really told anyone this stuff before, kinda feels good, lol

I can definitely relate to the obsessive-compulsive stuff. For me it mostly applies to organization and consistency. Cash in my wallet needs to be in order by denomination and facing the same direction, every compartment in my truck is neatly organized and nothing is out in the open, if I see a tangled phone cord on anyone's desk I feel the need to (and usually do) untangle it--stuff like that.

I have noticed other things, like if I'm the last one to leave work and set the alarm, I start doubting if I really did it and drive up to another door on my way out so I can look at a panel and double-check. A couple minutes later I start wondering if the doors are all locked and shut properly so I turn around and double-check. In all the years I've been there, I've never actually gone back to find that I did make a mistake, but I get the thought in my head that it's a possibility and I can't stop myself from checking.

Then there was the story of fresh shrimp my wife bought while borrowing my truck, which she forgot to mention and it was middle of august here in Houston around a 110 inside parked truck even with windshield shade. I didn't use my truck for 4 days ,we had gone out of town. Well a pound of fresh shrimp under seat for 4 days in that temp. After getting them out, no amount of carpet cleaner, a half dozen bottles of Febreeze. That smell got into upholstery, carpet, headliner etc. Well my truck quickly became the work truck, It took a full year and 1/2 before smell finally left ,including numerous air fresheners, leaving windows down etc. So if you love your truck make sure all groceries are always out. PS. Why couldn't it have been waffles or sugar? SHRIMP!!! I still hate eating them to this day, and I sure wont help my wife clean them. A dumpster smelled like roses in comparison!!!
