Hello everyone. New in here and still waiting take delivery for my Truck. Meanwhile I'm doing some research for the camper shell. I lives in NorCal, anyone know what's the average price for the camper shell for the short bed? I have A.R.E. V series on top of my list. anyone know how much it will cost? Any good suggestion for local dealer?

Or even better, if anyone selling a used one, please let me know.

    Thanks All

    https://www.campway.com. Hayward location.

Swear I got my Leer. Just needed someone to push me to buy it cause otherwise I'd never pull the trigger. They were great. Had them attach an auto led light to the ceiling and wire mesh screen protectors. Their installers were pretty young, so I supervised some but was nice, so got a decent install done. I looked for used first. There's a guy on the sac Craigslist doing these, but you'll soon find its hard to find one you really wanna place on such a nice truck, if you're like me, but you're not so why did I just say that.?

I guess it depends on where you are at in NorCal as to what location would be best for you. Also, prices seem to vary between dealers by about 10% or so. I bought from these guys:https://www.yelp.com/biz/custom-truck-redwood-city

Overall, I was please with the pricing and service. My shell is an ARE.

Yup, shop around... when I bought, ARE and Snugtop were about the same price. Only thing was, the RWC dealer wanted $100 for install; Campways in Santa Clara (or thereabouts) was free. These guys seem to be always doing promos, so check the respective websites and don't be afraid to ask for price matching.

Got my Snugtop Rebel installed at Campways in Hayward with upgraded lock, fold down front slider, side sliding windows, 12v interior light and Yakima Rack tracks installed for $2200.

I would not recommend buying it from them. The shop guys were nice polite and professional but the installers are kids with no attention to detail whatsoever. The kid bragged that he won the bet with the counter guy and got it done in 30 min. Installed rack tracks and used 2.25" screws that they didn't cut off. Ran the power wire for the 12v light up to my battery but ran wire loom around my steering wheel shaft and around the Exhaust Front O2 sensor whole run had maybe 4 zip ties on it. Smelled burning plastic on the way home.

They forgot to order my pet screens so I had to return for them to install them. Had them cut the screws shorter during this visit. Didn't bother to let them fix the wiring, I did that myself.

First rain the thing leaked like a sieve. Leaking from rack screws, windows and the unsealed front gap in the bed rail. Checked screws and they didn't even use silicone to seal them.

At this point I didn't want to go back and have to explain to them again how to do their job so I called the Martinez location. They honored the installation warranty and sealed the screws, re-tightened the windows which were loose and applied silicone to the front bed rail gap.

The Snugtop shell is great. Their install was crap.

IF you go Campways, check out Martinez or the Santa Rosa store...much better reviews.

I know it's not a shell but...You could look into a softtopper. I just got one and it's awesome! Folds down easy if I need to use my bed and if I don't want it on my truck, it's easy to store. I love the canvas look.

Plus the price is around 699 for new, but you can find them on Craigslist for cheaper. Install is easy

Hi, Thanks for the advise but I have a plan to put a roof tent on top of the camper, so a soft topper won't work in my case.
    Thanks

Invest in bed supports if you are putting on a camper shell with an RTT.

But however that's for the 2nd get though. I did some research and still can't find any for the 3rd gen. Do they made it? or is that necessary for the 3rd Gen? or just because 2nd gen has a weaker bed?

    Same bed.

If you go to Campways Santa Rosa, ask for Cass. Tell him James sent you.

Search craigslist. I found a shell that was my color (the hard part) but he wanted 1100 for a Leer with no insulation, no loghts, but it had sliding screens, talked him down to 600 bucks and I couldent be happier. My Leer is great, no leaks, installed myself and I didn't have to put any sort of extra sealer between the rails and the shell to keep water out. Looks great to

you could do that all-pro pack rack with bars that allow for a soft topper. it's a sweet setup. not trying to push you away from a cap, just making sure you know about all the options.

    FYI,

Just drove by Campways in Hayward yesterday and the shop is closed down. Not sure if they moved or just shut it down. Not really a big loss there. Hey stopped receiving franchise awards for excellence in 1998..Hopefully the Martinez and Santa Rosa stores are still open.
