Does your transmission ever do this?

2014 TRD 4x4 automatic. Cruising along at 65mph level ground, short grade ahead, using gas pedal downshift to 4th gear, maintained 65mph, highway levels out again (flat) and the transmission remains in 4th gear not shifting up to 5th. I tried lifting out of the pedal several times and no joy. After a mile of this I manually shifted to 4th and then back to 5th at which time it shifted up. Truck has 37,000 miles. Any one experience this?

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Happens occasionally. It's normal in my opinion. I use the shifter to down shift for a bit more consistency in these situations.

Odd, aside from digging into a deeper bag of worms.... try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 20 minutes. Then reconnect and drive.

Sometimes after 20 or 30k miles i get lazy shifts, i do the battery trick and it resets. The trans does have a type of adaptive learning. 1 may come in and use a diff word for this, or get into the details. In the end, a simple reset can help if its not a mechanical issue.

Also, when im in drive and it for some reason hangs in 4th, i simply move the selector from d to 4, and back.
It always shifts then, forgot where i found this trick.

I will try the battery disconnect. Interesting though, a couple of days before this happened I pulled the battery to run a temp sensor wire for my new rear view mirror. I wonder if this phenom was due to its learning cycle. Never did it before. I will drive it some more and if it does it again I will pull the battery. Thanks guys

My 06 with 163k does it all the time. Usually when it finally shifts it seems to slip. I personally think it's something to do with the torque converter going in and out of lockup. My truck has thrown a handful of P2714 cel codes over the years, which is shift solenoid d. D for drive I'm guessing? Never had any catastrophic incidents and the P2714 is random at most. I've gotten to the point now, as mentioned above, where I just slap it into 4th for the hill, then back to 5th once crested.

I'm running 285's with stock gears btw. It also did it when I was on 265's.

My 99 does this. Today I hit the O/D button on a flat highway and it dropped back to 3rd. Turned O/D back on and it wouldn't shift back into 4th until I turned cruise off. Does this in cruise when I am going up a slight hill. Sometimes it won't shift back up until I go back downhill
