I just got back from Indianapolis I live in Daphne Alabama, and was wondwering I had the truck on the way up to Indy on around 82 mph and my gas milage for the first 2 fill ups was 16.6- 16.9mph..... My truck has the 4.0 V6 now from that point on i kept the milage set at 73 mph and my gas milage for the rest of the trip was aroung 19.8- 20/2 mpg. DO you think it could be my Fuel Filter? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Keep the RPM's below 2000 and you will get better mileage. It's not gonna get good mileage going 82 mph.

You answered your own question. You mileage is in the normal range for our trucks. In most cars/trucks you are gonna get the best mileage going 30-50 mph. The faster you go the worse your mileage is going to be.

The #1 factor in gas mileage is how you drive.

These trucks don't have a conventional replaceable fuel filter. There is a sock around the pump that is meant to last the life of the truck.

I would think that an increase in speed would have a corresponding decrease in mileage - in any vehicle.

The faster vehicle go the more fuel a vehicle will consume.

I am so dissappointed in my trucks fuel mileage. How does TOyota even get away with releasing a vehicle to the market with such poor gas mileage?

Driving faster makes fuel economy go down.

It's like there's not this huge government agency that rates vehicles' fuel mileage and requires it to be posted on the window sticker...

Before purchasing my Tacoma I had a 4cyl GMC Terrain and averaged about 24 mpg. I bought the Tacoma and have averaged about 20-21mpg (admittedly, I use it primarily as a daily driver although, I do tow and haul, occasionally). This truck has so many more capabilities than the Terrain had, obviously. I'm good.

You should be more disappointed in yourself for not doing enough research. Most people will learn that this is normal for a Toyota truck. Or you can get yourself another truck that won't be as reliable.

Word on the street is that Toyota run their engines a bit rich to improve reliability. I hate seeing 13mpg, shoot my wife's 4runner has seen as low as 12pmg when driving in the city.

You should be happy with that avg doing 73 mph, we did a trip from BC to Moab and once you start doing 80 in Utah you pretty much get to meet all the gas station owners. Getting 19/20 mpg is a good avg, if you have stock tires and tail wind, no hills.
