I know duratrac tires are known for their quick wear. Soft rubber gets chewed by rocks as well. Cooper makes a much better tire. As far as snow handling the duratrac takes the cake. Besides that - cooper all the way

I have Duratracs now. I don't know where you're getting the info about quick wear, but that's just wrong. And the part about chewing them up in rocks. Nonsense.

51,000 miles on a set of 265/75r16 load range C,s. Many miles in rocky off road, including sharp slate and shale. Not a single scuff, mark, chunk, slice, etc....And I'm selling them for a decent price with AT LEAST 50% tread left. Will be going with Cooper STT Pro's in 285/75r16's lrE.s. I only hope they're half the tire my Duratracs have been. If not, Back to the Goodyears....Just wanted something different or it would have been 285 Duratracs.

I agree, my Duratrac's have been phenomenal. 20k miles in and still have 3/4 (of the overall) tread depth left.

Nice. Maybe you should post those up in the "show off your duratracs" thread

Haha sorry, the plan is to try the ST MAXX's next just because I like experimenting and people seem to love them. Had to stand up for my current tread too though.

I have a problem with BAD information....lessens the credibility of what good info is posted. Slamming an obvious quality tire (Duratracs) by posting erroneous information does nothing to validate the quality of the Coopers, but does make the Cooper "fan base" look a little ridiculous when it happens.

I hope I'm just as impressed with the STT Pro's in 2 or 3 years as I am with the Goodyears. That would be saying a lot.

STT Pro is a mud terrain tho, right? You'll be hard pressed to get anywhere near the same mileage.

STT Pro isn't far from being a "hybrid" like the Duratrac. Reports I'm hearing from STT Pro users say close to 50K with more than half the tread they started with. That'll satisfy me. I generally change tires every 2 years or so....maybe more often. I swap, then sell the old tires while they're still worth something. Don't run 'em bald.

    Update:

Finally bought a tread depth gauge. $3.29 at O'Reilly.

ST Maxx Tread depth New: 18.5/32nds (As per Cooper Tire website).

At roughly 14k miles I'm showing:

    Front: 14.5/32

    Rear: 13/32

All the guys up here that run the STT Pros get far better mileage than the duras. Mine have little to no tread wear and I have a habit of chirping my tires. Best tire I have ever owned and my buddies all say how bad they want to run them as their next set. Guy with a cummins even brags about how they're lasting. You might even get an extra year!
