In the program I'm in due to limited clinical spots half the cohort take peds and the other half take OB then the following semester the groups are swapped. It's said that OB + med/surg is the harder grouping but to me it all a similar difficulty; it all requires studying.

Plus my OB professor taught us fundamentals, and pharmacology so I'm very used to her testing style which while it isn't easy it feels like it's preparing me well for the NCLEX.

Though this semester for all classes they implemented computerized testing that only display one question at a time and you can't go back to previous questions since that's more NCLEX style. My first test (OB) in the new format was a lower score then usual but I always used to skip questions I wasn't sure on and go back to them at the end; which I can't do now.

My med-surg clinical instructor seems kick ass though so that's exciting.

Went to get my taxes done today, which went great, I'm getting a decent amount back this year. With a smile, I walked out of the tax place annnnnnnnnnd...... into a shit show....... Long story short an unfortunate individual went into cardiac arrest, while driving, and ditched their vehicle into a snowbank across the street from my Tacoma. Luckily they didn't hit anything or anyone but came awful close to plowing into a house. I wound up having to initiate CPR (in a snowbank) until EMS arrived. Not really how i anticipated my day going but shit seems to follow me that way. :crapstorm:

    Now, Two things.....
    1. I highly advise any of you to purchase a pair of Leatherman Raptor EMS sheers because i used my brand new pair today for the first time and they do the fucking job. They're not cheap ($70) but versatile and SHARP. https://www.leatherman.com/raptor-51.html
    2. I'm curious what your state's laws are regarding such incidents? Example explained for above situation; You're a healthcare provider and you happen upon an accident/medical emergency, what are you "legally" expected to do?
Here in Michigan, I Believe, the average Joe is covered by "Good Samaritan" Laws in such an instance where the lay person is legally protected in the event that they are helping in good faith with absolute basic medical knowledge (BLS/CPR). Medical professionals are not. However, I don't believe we are "legally" required to stop and/or assist here in Michigan.
Not looking for a pat on the back or anything, the person is deader than a hammer, I'm just trying to bring up a good discussion point and possibly a good learning lesson for some of you that i see are still in Nursing school.

In VA, there is no "duty to rescue" law so you are not legally bound to stopping on scene. However, many of us many feel ethically inclined to render our services to those in need. I would only provide care that I was competent in doing though. With limited supplies, that most likely involves making sure EMS is called, the scene is safe and maintaining ABCs as needed.
