Oh, I thought you were saying it sucked. Fun as it may be, I don't believe I will be seeking employment as a bareback anytime soon.

I worked at a family-run pizzeria as a delivery driver in the summer of 2015. The owner (my boss) was awesome, a middle-aged Italian guy who liked me. When he was around, nobody f***ed with me. However, when the boss man was taking the day off or on vacation, the other employees would take advantage of me and try to get me to do their jobs so they didn't have to. The proverbial straw that the broke the camel's back was when my Tacoma got clobbered by a drunk driver right after I finished a shift, and $5 per hour plus tips wasn't worth my truck potentially getting totaled. Owner realized what a great employee I was and after one month of silent feuding tried unsuccessfully for months to get me to come back.

Also, in my black-and-white Asperger's mind, I'd been hired to deliver pizzas, and I also didn't mind assembling pizza boxes on slow nights. $5 an hour in cash under the table was okay, and the insane amount of tips I made on most nights more than made up for this. It was not my job to mop the entire goddamn pizzeria 10 minutes before my shift was over, and on top of that the pizzeria didn't even have offsite parking!

I have two career options in mind... Either HVAC tech or insurance adjuster, plus freelance writer... I work at a bar more because my boss is an awesome person who understands me like no typical "retail" boss ever would... My job makes money and my boss treats me like a human... that's why I like it...

Well, that's about all you need. If you're happy with your work and happy with the money, why not stay?

I intend on staying, but one of my good friends I work with recently graduated college and got what I would consider an insanely high-paying job with an engineering firm. He still barbacks on weekends to make extra money. He is the person I aspire to be like...

If insanely high paying why still need for more extra money?

    How much money is enough?

You can never have enough money... More income means a larger "Tacoma slush fund"!

I don't know much he makes at his day job, none of my business, but I will tell you this... He knows that I know more about vehicles than him. We went to another bar near the one where we work... He wants to buy a 4Runner TRD Pro. He bought me a very expensive draft beer just because I gave him my opinion on what SUV he should buy... My idea of a typical cost for a cold draft beer is like $3-$4. This particular draft was a $7 draft...

My friend is very smart, but he was so clueless that he thought he could get a large SUV in stick shift. He grew up driving stick shift, in a late 1990s Tacoma no less, and his current car is a 2007 Camry SE with a slushbox. He loves driving stick and is very OCD about car maintenance, but he still knows nowhere near what I do about basic vehicle facts...

By the way, I narrowed his decision down to a 4Runner TRD Pro, or if he really wants 2 more cylinders, a Tahoe Z71. Again, he actually thought a Tahoe was available as a manual!

You said he makes insanely high income

Thus curious how you came to that conclusion

Thought maybe he was asking your help to pick up a new Chiron or Huyara

In all fairness, the GM of my bar gives all her bar-backs a chance to bartend. Every single one of them did a good job, but all but maybe 1 or 2 went right back to exclusively barbacking. They just liked it better...

In my opinion, anybody 2 years younger than me who just got out of college, has only been on the job a year, and can already afford to upgrade to a brand new SUV from the 2007 Camry SE he's been driving for years has an insanely high income...

    Did he pay cash?
Did he trade in the camry or just give it to you to sell because he is soooo rich?

Now if he had bought a helicopter to travel to work.......

Another great thing about being in the service industry is that other bartenders love me and hook me up by comping beers I can't afford when I'm trying them for the first time...
