Does anyone know where I can get a replacement snap ring for my 5100's? Can they be purchased separate? Local auto shop screwed mine and installed it. This is what I found.....

Move it into the groove. Or is it broken?

If it's not cracked in half then remove it. Pry it off and slide it down. Straighten it out and put it back in the Grove. Use a flat head screwdriver to get it off.

It's hard to tell from that picture, but it looks like you can just push it back up into the groove. When you move the snap ring from groove to groove it looks just like that. Anyway, I would contact Bilstein for new rings.

The sad part about the situation is they assembled it with the spring seats upside down the first attempt....stressed the snap ring pretty bad I'm sure. Then I showed up and saw the issue and had them correct it "flip the spring seat". I got them home and put them on my truck, drove around for a week and noticed a "sound" took the strut back off and found this.....

Yes I moved the rings initially and they were very easy to move. You can see where the ring has been stressed and bent with a tool of some type.

Ah I see now. It won't hold tight into the groove anymore. In that case, yes get some new ones. Either contact Bilstein directly or see if a Bilstein vendor can hook you up.

I found a few vendor numbers. I'm guessing there is no way to get in touch with bilstein? Just through a vendor?

Everything I have read from bilstein says that if it is ever bent then discard and replace. I am going to call bilstein Monday and try to get some new snaps. I don't trust "fixing" a bent snap ring with the life of my children. Especially if it fails at interstate speed.

Spoke with bilstein today and they have new rings in the mail. Cost a whole $1.54 shipping included.

Now to go talk to the shop that installed them incorrectly.....
