Just ordered the toolbox. Found a good price online and got the local dealership to drop their price.

Tonight I'll try to get the tank, pump, and valve ordered.

yes. I just ignore it. a solenoid valve like what Tim posted in the OP will get rid of that issue all together.

Very true. I figured that even if it throws a code it's not something that's gonna cause a major issue.

Can you still get your truck inspected? That will cause it to fail here.

Great idea OP. I like the tank you're using.
I like the idea of putting it under the unusable space under the tool box. I run a cap and have a drawer system planned out, but maybe there is space under the bed?

    Factory spare tire location?

Bunch of folks run larger tires that won't fit under there anyway.

depends on where you live. I don't have a yearly inspection, but if you do, then you likely can't have a check engine light on. that's what the valve solves. the more economical option, but more of a pain, is to put a hand operated globe valve in there. the solenoid valve just allows you to open and close the valve with a switch vs getting out of your truck.

I get 10mpg in my current truck. Lord knows what Basketcase will get. I figured I better address that before I get too far into the bed build

I have had this idea for a while but hadn't seen anyone running it. I knew I've seen your build before guess I didn't dig deep enough. But yeah I want to do this 100%

Cool. I'll check that out. Thank you.
In the spare tire location, it'd hang down below my high clearance bumper. Where we wheel is very rocky.

It'd be a great spot if that's not a concern though.

I'd suggest a real fuel cell, not a boat tank or similar.

I'll eventually install one where the spare tire was, bit you want to avoid a Ford Pinto moment.

I'm planning to use the fuel cell I linked to in the OP.

But, for now, extended travel Kings have taken priority.

I wasn't real impressed with the way this thing mounted. Just 3 tabs to hold it down. SO I built some straps to secure it. There's room for a little rubber under the straps to prevent any rubbing. I'll figure out plumbing later

Alright, this is back on track. Got the toolbox on the truck and ordered one of these eBay fuel cells http://www.ebay.com/itm/152071755460?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT they have good reviews and are $65-$70 less than an RCI.

    Also ordered this fuel pump
    http://www.jegs.com/i/AEM/017/50-1005/10002/-1

Now I need to get all the fittings and hoses. I'm thinking of running a check valve instead of a solenoid valve. Any thoughts on that?

Need to figure out a remote fill too.

check valve will work if it is spring loaded. an unsprung check may not give you the seal you need, resulting in the "minor evaporative leak" code that I get.

since you're going with a true fuel cell, the parts and pieces for a remote fill should be easy to get. just need to sort our mounting it. mounting to the bed rails or your bed rack is probably the easiest.
