What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Well..

Thats what i thought.

So i swapped in a dual diaphragm booster...and a larger MC from a T100..

Super soft feeling.

Put my single one back in and the much smaller 13/16'' MC...stops insanely hard now.

Which is why you'll see some accounts of people that say this is the best brake mod ever. ANd others say...my pedal feels spongy now..

Its because the folks with the dual diaphragm and 1'' MC it doesn't generate enough PRESSURE. The smaller MC moves less VOLUME but more PRESSURE.

01-04s came with the smaller booster and MC to make the brakes more senetive and touchy.

I have this all pretty well documented in my build thread of Igor. Was an interesting, and expensive, experiment. But now i can tell you all whats what

Yes. Okay. Well if you want it to REALLY stop like a race car. Get an 01-04 booster/MC/brake pedal. Yes even the brake pedals are setup totally different..

I just explained my theory above so yea..

 

Mine is definitely spongey for sure. It takes more "force" to stop. But it still stops faster than stock

 

exactly how mine was with the dual diaphragm booster and an even bigger MC so it was probably a bit worse then even what you're experiencing.

Not sure it is worth the effort to swap the MC/Booster/Pedal as its not easy and kind of a pain. But i will say the difference is HUGE. My truck freaking STOPs now. before i damn near had to floor the pedal to get it to really stop in a hurry.

 

Right now it's not worth it to me. I'll apply a little bit more pressure and it'll work for me. Once it's not my DD it's a total different story haha. Still happy with the upgrade so far

 

Same, I got maybe 40-50% to the floor and it stops quick. So idk if it's worth the effort. But I noticed it stops quicker so I can't complain too much.

 

Well thanks for helping prove my theory anyways haha will have to watch others that try it before id say its a fact and not a theory.

 

Anytime! But out of all the builds I've seen with the upgrade 90% of them have said it's spongey and that it "takes" more to stop but it stops better.

But you're writeup helped a couple times. I added another washer because it kept leaking haha. Good writeup, I tried to do that but I had a bolt shear and said fuck it, not worth it haha

 

writeups can be a bitch to do when things...don't go as planned Been there.

I went through a lot of build with it, but didn't do a ton. Most the guys i know that have it done on 01-04s with 0 complaints. Then then ones that where complaining where in the 95-00 bracket. Im not keeping track really as im not THAT dedicated to the theory..lol but it has been my findings thus far.

You'll like those. They spit out the rocks and debris after driving thru puddles and stuff. Helps the pads last longer. Best mod I ever did for my brakes. They absolutely do not wear the pads down faster on their own. They run cooler and stop better than plain rotors. You don't have to drive fast to heat up rotors, downhill braking will heat them up too, so yes, you will get to take advantage of it.

I love my drilled and slotted upgrade. I drive 32 miles to work everyday and 28 of it is the interstate. Especially since these people in GA forget they are driving sometimes, I need the extra help. I got my kit from summit, powerstop with ceramic pads for $150. Worth ever penny
