I miss the mountains and roads of Norcal. It was an amazing place to grow up, and one of the hardest places to leave.

We fly back for a week or two a year to see friends and enjoy those parts I miss. But every time we are out there I realize that leaving was the best choice I ever made. People here ask how I could have ever left CA, and my response is always, "you say that because you have never lived there."

I have lived all over the US, and on 5 continents.. and nothing is perfect in my idealistic sense. I despise much of the south and the east coast, just about everything east of the Mississippi is meh in my mind. Sadly the places closer to my ideal do not offer jobs to support my wife in here endeavors, nor do they provide a safe haven for such a liberal minded hippy as myself. So we live here. Living anywhere is a game of give and take, it's just deciding what gives you are willing to trade for what takes. But that's life I guess, a series of compromises.
