Damn dude, yeah, it's not a vacuum leak... Unless you have the wrong MAF or o2, -which I doubt- maybe it IS the computer. Does the 2.4 use a TPS?

So i use the innova 3040 c, not sure how to access log files if even possible. Any insight?

It does use TPS and ive already ohmed it out, readings are proper...

New computer is in tomorrow... hell my fingers are crossed. If this doesnt do it im starting from square one again, but i cant see how ive missed anything... this has become one heck of a write up for lean codes though... anyway, trucks scheduled to go into the dealer wednesday if the new ECM doesnt do it...

    A whole lot
How is the cat(s) doing? Could be clogged.
Are you clearing the code after you work on it, if so, how quickly does it come back?

Technically its called freeze frame data not log file. see pdf

Good morning tacoma world... its computer day
There were catalyst efficiency codes a while back, but they were resolved with the new o2 sensors. I began reading about the cat not long ago, some said to disconect before it and see how it runs, but i know that if i do thay ill break every bolt (rust) so in the intrest of not re-piping the truck, i think ill wait on the cat given theres no code.
As far as freeze frama data goes, what do you want me to get? The fuel trims stay dramatically and consistently hight (up to 40% at times) and all sensors seem ti be reading in spec, unless by some chance warrantying each sensor twice wasnt enough and one is out of spec

As you go through the freeze frame data you see no data change abnormally? Other then the fuel trims

I hate to sound redundant but i dont know how to pull the freeze frame from that tool. Ill look it up tonight

Yeah not sure why the emphasis on "freeze frame data". It's useful for identifying a condition or data at a certain RPM or load.... it's not really useful here. LTFT are really high, the ECU is seeing too much air from somewhere. Hope it's computer, pls update asap!

edit: just thinking though this, but maybe you could just scan a couple data frames and see if the MAF, TPS, o2, timing, and coolant temp are within normal parameters. That's probably what @mechanicjon means.

It shows the data right before and after code is set. What can it hurt to check everything possible. It may be a mute point, but its there, use it.

    Hey guys...
Jon I've had to reset the ecu so many times lately that a full code hasn't shown in a while, when one does I'll get the freeze frame.

As far as the new ecu goes... put it in, truck fired up, and after about 30 miles driving everything was exactly the same as the old ecu (no difference at all in fuel trims or any sensor readings). So that's been returned, I'm glad it was not that, pushing $450, but now I guess I start over again... must have missed something. The only sensor that is not OEM is the MAF, it's Duralast from autozone with a lifetime warranty. If I can find a chart showing proper voltages on that sensor to make sure it's reading right that would help, but tonight I'll warranty it, and also buy the OEM Delphi sensor, put that in, and schedule an appt with Toyota

That's too bad. Also there were two different MAFs and were pinned differently through the years on the 5vz at least. Something to think about. An OeM from the junk yard might be a good choice.

I found some voltage info on the MAF
But I only have data for the years 2000 and 1996. Not sure of its the same as a 99. I'll post it when I get back home.

    IT'S FIXED

Long story short, thano you everyone for your help and guidance. Would have lost my mind without this forum, but here's what happened.

Duralast MAF sensor plus factory intake, normal trims.
DELPHI MAF (OEM) plus factory intake, normal trims
DELPHI MAF plus Spectre Cold Air Intake, normal trims
DURALAST MAF plus Spectre cold air intake, 40% LTFT at 2500 rpm, almost 20 at idle.

So an aftermarket MAF was not as sensitive as the Delphi OEM sensor, and was allowing tons of un-metered air past the sensor due most likely to the poor intake design.

So stick with OEM sensors and factory parts, like everyone already know.

It was just hard chasing it down because the Delphi sensor was fine in the CAI, and once the factory was back on and the duralast warrantied out and ECU reset, it began to run normal and cleared it's own code maybe 3 key turns later.

Thanks again guys... sorry if I look like an idiot, guess we forgot to "K.eep I.t S.imple S.tupid"

I had the stock one back in, the duralast sensor either was bad or needed more time to relearn with the ecu. Lono story short, as soon as I put Delphi into it it worked fine. Just a circle game, I guess

This is why I refuse to use short of OE quality for sensors like the MAF, O2's, and CKP/ CMP sensors. You will do nothing but waste your time tracking down demons elsewhere that otherwise do not exist. Glad you figured it out man.
