Damn. Forgot about the "gun free zones" that criminals ignore.

(sorry... I was an MP for 20 years and still work in LE)

I want to do a console vault too, but not one that takes up the whole console. Anyone find an option for this?

Check your state laws on what the penalty is. *If* you get caught and if you get charged, in my state it's a ridiculously small fine. That's it.

And as anything goes, use common sense. Are you an elementary school teacher? Well then maybe don't carry. Etc, etc.

-guy that sounds like a gun nut but actually wants more gun laws

Here in Colorado, they're passing laws to allow properly trained teachers (at high schools) to conceal carry on campus...it's a little bit of a new pill to swallow but ultimately I like the idea. As previously mentioned, the only people who obey the gun free zones are law abiding citizens, which is why they're a joke.

I keep mine below my steering wheel (I don't have my CCW), more or less in open sight. No issues thus far. In the event I need it, I want to get to it quick. If that means there's a risk of my vehicle being targeted because someone see's it and wants it, well so be it, it's a calculated risk I'm ok with.
