    LS1 swap with nitros.
What does having it in 4wd even matter? The rear diff broke, not the front. The ring and pinion are always in mesh and are always rotating when the truck is moving.

My guess is backlash was not set properly at the factory or one of the bearings failed and the stackup changed.

Worst part is Toyota playing games about potentially not covering this.

Yes poster named Eden had hers fail on the road about a year ago. Another guy had one lock up on the LA freeway recently.

Unfortunately that happens too frequently and then they never come back again to tell the cause or how the issues were resolved.

I don't see anyone directly accusing him it's his fault. However there are alot of questions about this as to the history of similar issues with no follow up. And that with all the other issues we have going on with this gen, this seems to be isolated.

I wasn't offended thank you. I was asking because your question about starting in 4lo was ignorant. Maybe you need to heed your own advice about the internet.

This thread is interesting. Everyone was jumping all over the guy and as soon as one of the Moderators chimed in with something small the thread took a different turn. The moderator is like a Jedi Knight

Well the follow up for now is they are going to replace the two gears (ring and pinion) and the gasket. They are NOT going to provide a loaner even though it will be a week because I didn't buy extended warranty. It's going to take a week because it took them from Friday 730AM until 237PM to adjudicate my case and by that time it was too late to order parts and Monday is a holiday. The parts are in Vancouver (for you American guys that's like sending them from So Cal to Maine) so not only can they not order until tomorrow they will take a few days to get here. So they're saying Friday. I will give a follow up but my largest fear is a noise / rumble / vibration after the install that I cannot get resolved. At least if they set backlash wrong or the bearing is actually toast and they miss it the problem will repeat and fast! Within the warranty period.

I understand 100 percent that the knee jerk reaction is I did something wrong and I would be suspicious if it were someone else who posted their rear end imploded because that's the only thing that makes sense. Abuse. I also will fully admit that I would expect that truck to take some abuse but I never dished any out. It's brand new and I cannot afford it! I did tow a trailer in the summer (3500lbs) and I DO have a brake controller installed. That's the most abuse she got.

OK now see problem... first off... you own a 4x4 and when it snows yer supposed to be out wheeling and have FUN b-4 working specially shoveling snow. That way if your SO (significant other) gets frustrated because you're not getting the "work" done soon enough, he/she may actually do said work FOR YOU.... and you get to wheel, keeping all the moving parts lubricated like it says to do in your owner manual. Which is the answer to the question "why aren't you shoveling snow?"

"I'm lubricating my 4WD like it tells me to in the manual."

    Problem solved and problem avoided..
