So in around 6 months i'm gonna be getting a 2013 or 2014 scion frs. Stock it has 200 hp. I can figure out how to build a car on my own but need help. I'm wanting to get the car to atleast 800hp but i know some people have got it to do 1200hp. It's a 4 banger. I dont know what i need to make it do that much. Would like to get it close to 1200. Any advice and steps on how to do this. What other thing do i need also like (braces, better brakes and etc) It's gonna be a fully built engine sometging that i can drive a lot and go to the track. Not necessary as a daily driver

Well thats what the brace does for the front and rear. It reinforces it. I know i can get 450 to 530 hp from a bolt on twin turbo. But im willing to go the extra mile with the car

800hp out of a 2 Liter? Where to start on this. You're going to need to upgrade the connecting rods and pistons, new exhaust manifold, valves, head bolts (maybe new heads), turbo or two, closed deck block (if the design is similar to the EJ series) crank shaft, clutch, flywheel, fuel pump, fuel lines, injectors and an new ecu. That's just to get started on the power then you'll need to consider the transmission, rear end and chassis/body support.

It would be a cool project...I can't imagine the $$ involved.

Of course getting it stopped too.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that you are in way over your head. If you are asking the questions that you are asking with plans to make that kind of power you need to start smaller and learn

The FA20 is a higher compression engine, if you start increasing that compression ration by going forced induction (turbo) the engine won't last long. More than likely the con rods are going first and if so, there goes the whole engine.

Either way, and at the very, very bare minimum you're going to have to upgrade the internals in order to safely more power.

I'd highly recommend talking to Crawford or Cobb Tuning and laying out your plans with them so they can get you started off smartly. I would foresee this costing in upwards of $20k when it's all said and done

My price range is around $40000 and thats also the cost of the car. Im wanting to go with Crawford turbo and also I planned on getting all performance engine block, rods and camshaft for it. I know small engine performance. My brother can help to. He grew up adding performance parts and usually messed things uo because he didnt go the entire way. And i have worked on boat engine putting performance stuff on them i know there totally different engines but same concept. And also school has a really nice automotive shop if i run into big problems

Biggest waste of money ever right here. Don't do it. Buy real estate or something that will actually gain a dollar one day.

800hp on a Scion block sounds like a grenade waiting to explode. Seems like it would be easier to just buy a race motor (Supra, STI, et al) and cut/weld/make that shit fit in the scion chassis. Either way you no longer have a street legal car, might as well do 800hp in the already-established way.

40k budget is cut in half after you buy the car, 20k probably won't even get the motor where it needs to be, let alone everything downstream of it!

I spoke with crawford and they said i can get it up to 500hp easily with a small turbo on just engine work. He said its all things i could install and said thats the safe amount of hp without adding to other things.. He said i could install a bigger turbo=more power and do a lot of stuff on components on the outside. If i get everything converted and put in for all the power then i can crank that turbo up. He said it all depends on the owner.

Why would it not be street legal?

yep, bought it brand new in '79, (1st yr. for factory turbo, garrett t3) been fooling with it since. Always something or another needs upgrading.
It's there. Puts down the hp, (5--RWHP) just breaks everytime he runs it.

And to the OP, this guy has deep pockets and lots of patience (obviously) but he'll die with this car unfinished.

Typically those HP numbers come with non highway legal:
    -intake
    -injectors
    -exhaust
    -blow off valve

But I also don't know what state you're in so this could all be a non issue for you lol

Its pretty easy in Missouri to get something to pass an inspection in missouri if its just 1 or 2 things. Unless its like brakes or something that can kill someone.
