Those were both 4x2's though, right?

Do they have the same diff as 4x4 versions?

They replaced my entire brake assembly to fix the brakes. They made it muuuuch better. They pulsate every once in a while but not like the every other press that was happening before. Keep pressing them.

Even if the pulsating is "normal" it shouldn't be doing it all the time.

that's 4 or 5 blown rear ends out of the one-hundred-million third gens they have built. Statistically insignificant

honestly, though, how many third gens have been produced, now?

If that's the case then their putting weaker axles In the tacos then those of the pickups. I've bounced on 35's using a pickup axle. Not a lot of bouncing as I'm cheap, but I did bounce.

This is not a problem that any owner should face. Honestly other things should break before the ring and pinion go.

That looks like a soft gear set possibly off shore mfgd

I've done that type of damage on my drag race car a few times after releasing the transbrake and cleaning the teeth off the ring gear

Partnered with a shitty batch of material?
There's definitely something going on with the differentials given all the howling etc. No consistent production given some howl some don't

    It's not a hundred million.

Maybe the blown diffs arent statistically insignificant but it's relevant because of all of the diff issues people are having. That's hovering at about 50% which is very significant.

sad thing is i can understand your issues with your dealer if its the dealer im thinking about.

im also in nova scotia canada and have had troubles with local dealers.

and yes i have to use 4wd to get into my driveway every day. we get the same climate as maine.

is your dealer outside the city or is it the 2 dealers in HRM?

Where are you getting info that 50% of all 3rd gens are having rear diff issues? Nothing drives me more crazy as when people post numbers without a link to their research.

    ***UPDATE***

They have flown the parts in and they are at the dealership as we speak and truck is being worked on which is 4 days ahead of schedule. They are replacing the rear "pod" so I assume that means third member? Perhaps someone knows will that have the pinion and new bearing already installed and thus no backlash adjustment required? That would make me feel much better. Toyota Canada gave me a PFO response in terms of a loaner and said it's a steadfast policy across all their brands that there is NO loaner / rental unless the customer has purchased the extended warranty. Dealership is giving a loaner for a day or whatever it takes after a few phone calls.

On another note the lady from dealership customer service said the ECM (she called it flight data recorder) could see what the truck was doing when the "event" happened. I was pressing them hard to give me a reason this happened. I should of clarified with her but I'm 99% sure they have diagnosed it to free wheel spin and abrupt stop but I'm not sure if that's an ECM thing or an assumption like others have done on the forum thread. I assume the ECM or ABS sensors couldn't tell what abruptly stopped the wheel? That is to say the wheel stopped from the ring and pinion binding and thus the sensor on wheel sees abrupt stop and records? I can assure anyone that thinks I was abusing truck it had nothing to do with free spinning at high speed and then abrupt stop because of traction. The reason I had went to my friends house was to help install tire chains on his 4x4 tractor as it was a skating rink. No traction = no abrupt stop caused externally from tire grab. I'm not even sure the tire made a complete revolution before the pop sound and then grinding.

Even if it did grab like that - it should not strip the teeth off the R&P. They are not the weak link.
They will replace the entire differential. I had them replace my 2011 diff after a year of bitching about it howling. They wont mess with just replacing a ring and pinion - too much labour and training for the techs.
What do you mean no loaner? they definitely gave me a loaner for any warranty work done, does not matter about extended warranty.
