    I was given an air raid one for fun... ran it, hated the sound, trashed it.
    Whistled, looked shiny.

    I just installed this on my PRO it was fairly straight forward. Truck feels a little more peppy then stock. Id say it was worth the few bucks.

    Nice write up OP, appreciate the sound clips too. I've not been able to see the kit in person, in your opinion, do you think part #8, the air horn,would fit & work on a stock air box? Also,thanks for keeping the post going even though some replies weren't helpful. Some folks don't play well with others.

    Would this airbox fit an aFe dry filter instead of the oiled one? Anyone do this?

    I appreciate your "exhaustive" work. I wonder if you or others have might have an opinion on the following;

    If the main points are; 1) Better/tighter cold air intake, 2) Increased airflow efficiency due to route and improved filter and 3) Nice sound, and you mentioned that others have pieced together the kit, my question(s) is this;

    Can I install just the new horn (part 8) for better seal and the resonator (part 3) for better sound?

    I have the upgraded filter already, so I'm wondering if I can cheap out and still get a very large percentage of the benefits.

    Really, of course, I most interested in the cooler sound, because I'm a boy. But it seems silly to pay a lot for it, because I'm a man. And the price of doing the whole kit seems high for the performance or the sound, because I'm a husband, and it's coming out of my allowance.

    Thanks

    Right??? That's what I was thinking. TRD Pro is supposed to be cream-of-the-crop and they did nothing with the engine. I was a bit bummed with this as well.

    I priced it all out and it comes super close to what you can find the entire kit as online (off by maybe $20). Still some savings for sure but it still is very close.

    YES! The air horn/accelerator attaches to the bottom portion of the air box which is re-used with the TRD kit. So it will work the same whether you have the TRD kit or the standard intake setup.

    I've learned that in this forum, there seems to be an obligatory 5+ troll posts required in every thread. I've just learned to live with it. :D

    If the aFe dry filter is designed to work in the stock air box, it will also fit in the TRD air box.

    @RedAlertCA, Air horn/air accelerator, yes, resonator/tube, no. Here's why...

    As mentioned above, the air accelerator attaches to the bottom portion of the box which is re-used with the TRD kit so it works the same. The resonator is part of the intake tube and unfortunately for what you're trying to accomplish, the TRD tube is straight unlike the stock intake tube. This will cause angle and hook up issues with the top portion of your box. The stock lid has the intake connection angled to work with the stock intake tube. The TRD lid has the intake connection angled straight to work with the straight TRD tube. Call it what you will, but the stock lid does not play nicely with the rest of the parts of the TRD kit aside from the air accelerator/air horn and filter.

    So long winded answer, short

    I bought mine as a complete kit from the dealer but I had a hookup. You can buy the complete kit online for a pretty good price. Piecing everything together saves you about $20 or so I think compared to online prices of the complete kit.

    New to the formum and this post caught my eye as I am feeling like my 2017 taco has some drivability issues which seem to be due to limited torque/horsepower at lower rpm and shifting pattern of the 6spd trans. I want to do an intake and exhaust upgrade and am curious to know if anyone has compared the TRD intake to any of the aftermarket units.

    Yes, that is how I ordered mine. The link includes all parts except the TRD filter which has part# PTR03-34140.

    Thanks for the write up this is very informative. I have a TRD Pro also and want to improve performance as much as I can. I tow a 23 foot boat and Iam considering getting the 4.88 gears since Im likely going to replace the tires with 255/85/16's. Have you considered regearing when you get your new tires?
