All of those things are different which is the reason to shorten the front section of he current driveshaft. I think it's about 13" that needs to be cut off then it will work.

Doesn't the rear section already have a slip joint?

How's does the driveshaft deal with travel of the axle if it's pinned at the carrier bearing and doesn't have a slip joint?

I know on the 2wd there is a slip yoke at the transmission. Does the driveshaft somehow move forward/backward in the carrier to utilize that slip yoke?

Well isn't that interesting. Even the front driveshaft has a slip joint and it doesn't even articulate.

currently I don't think there is a "kit" as people who convert don't always have the same setup. what you do need is the 4wd housing(Y-bracket) mount that secures the rear of trans/t-case to the crossmember...I think the last time I looked it up, its around 100 new, the actual crossmember is built around the existing frame mounts and where you set the height of the trans.

if you can find a 4wd crossmember, you'll have to notch the middle of it and drop the mounting area about halfway down, since the crossmember frame mounts are higher on 2wd

Yes, I am aware of what modifications are needed. Here is an example of a modified crossmember from @ajohnson build. I think he started with a 4wd crossmember but is this necessary? Does the 2WD transmission mount have the same crossmember bolt pattern as the 4WD? Can you just cut out the center section and ends of the 2WD crossmember and use rectangular steel?

    What hasn't been modified?
Yes, that's what rst did when they converted. Cut up the 2wd mount and used some 1x3 box tube to make it fit.

Another option I had a 4wd mount and cut it then lowered it till it was the height we wanted IMG_2713.jpg

I did not know this was an option as well. Did you also have to move the crossmember forward an inch to account for the difference in where the brackets are welded on yhe frame? Do you have any other photos?

If anyone is looking for a front diff I have one with 12k miles, still has factory gear oil in it. Comes with cv axles and complete hub assemblies as well.
