2005 4x4 with lift....less power?

    My manual transmission 2005 4x4 does fairly well pulling my boat on level ground but uphill or on an uber steep boat ramp it's 4 low territory for sure.

    My question is if I putt a slight lift and larger rims and tires would it lose a significant amount of power with pulling the boat?

    you'll feel it, yep.... significant ? that is subjective

    bigger tires make it run like a dog, slower to accelerate and more power to maintain speed
    higher in air, more drag, less mpg
    driveshaft angle increased less optimal torque

    Force = torque / radius.
    So the force is inversely proportional to the radius (of the wheel, including the tire).

    That means that if you double the radius of the wheel, you cut the force in half.
    Now obviously you won't be going that big of a difference, but say you increase the radius by 10% (so, from 15 inch to 16.5), then you take whatever the force was before, and divide it by 1.1 to arrive at the new force.

    If you're struggling now adding bigger tires will only make it worse. And you don't have to go much bigger to notice. A 1" taller tire would be noticeable, but if you had plenty of power to start with it would probably be acceptable. Going 2" larger would be completely unacceptable to me unless the axle/axles were regeared.
