Bam! That was it. I didn't have any glue, so I put some of GF's clear nail polish in there to keep the retainers inside the hole.

Actually, it's a super big x-acto cutting mat. I'm a Graphic Designer who somehow ended up being a Sales & Marketing director so even though I chase clients all day I do actually do hand work pretty often so it works out to have this 24x36" mat serving as my desk cover and mouse pad.

The knobs will go in tonight for sure right after I get home from work and pull the whole HVAC assembly to put the LEDs in.

Here's the links to the knobs I got direct from China and the LED replacements for the lighting:

6 White 3 SMD LED T4 yadda yadda yadda

    Knobs through AliExpress

^^^ This was the first time I've ever bought through AliExpress and using Paypal was really easy and didn't feel sketchy at all

Details on the mat please? I have this old leather protector I bought from IKEA 15 years ago and its all beat up. I bought the "same" one few years back and it turned out to be cheap imitation leather, so i sent it back. Your mat may just work as a better replacement.

I like the knobs just fine but I think they could use a black mark on the ring so you can see it better in the day time.

Shit. So things didn't go as planned...

First off, if anyone bought the LED replacement bulbs I posted, I apologize.

    They don't fit. :annoyed:

Specifically, the actual PCBs the 3 LEDs are mounted to are wider than the holes the little bulbs sit in on the back of the whole HVAC assembly.

I tried shaving the sides but overhandling the little thing broke the wire so that was a bust.

See the pica of the size comparison.

The knobs however fit great and at least on my set up aren't loose at all.

But of course, something weird is going on because one of thr bulbs is now out so roughly 2/3s of the knobs and other indicators actually light. Seriously just earlier they were both working so either I broke it or have gremlins. Probably my fault.

I'm giving up for tonight because my 6 year old called me in from the garage and barfed. So THAT is how my evening is going! :boom:

Indeed they are but they are Chinese T4 so not quite up to the exacting specs of the engineers at Toyota, apparently.

I'm giving up for tonight and might try something else this weekend. I need a beer.

They will fit. You kind of have to push them in on an angle. The base is soft and doesn't grab super tight so don't over tighten. Mine came lose on 3 different occasions before I gave up on these things and went back to OEM bulb style.
If you want to get crazy, maybe secure them with a small dab of silicone so they stay put but can still be removed if needed.

Saw that one. I just thought you did another coat of paint and that made them match better
