Oh the resonator is the "silencer"... they looked pretty close to the same thing to me and made me wonder what that part actually does!?? I'm guessing there's a resonant frequency generated by the intake??? Sometimes those type of things cause problems and why there's a resonator there in the first place eh?

I wonder if it's really necessary or if it's an emissions requirement. My thought was to cut it off, seal it, and then put the resonator back on so it looks like it's there

Part # 3 and it is to reduce sound only. No EPA requirements.

Not to thread jack but I have the stock air I take on my 2016 trd sport but have considered getting the pro intake. Would
I gain anything out of this change or just a few fancy colored letters under the hood?

My guess is any gain would be really minimal. Just some cool fancy colors under the hood. There's probably a lot more productive things you can do for $450...

Main purpose of the resonator is to control sound. However, there are all of these theories and what not about having "vibrating air" or something like that in which resonators can help with. But, the main purpose is to decrease sound. A straight pipe from the intake to the throttle body will be the loudest while any resonator installed along the way will quiet it down. Of course, resonators mean less air flow as air travels into the resonator on its way into the throttle body.

Yes, if you want the TRD performance intake system as they work together. This is still a lot less than the 475 retail price.
