    Hey Guys,

So I purchased the rear 5100 shocks for my 05 tacoma (part #24-186728) and I am trying to see if they are actually the correct length. Toytec said that stock ride height is 21.5 inches, but my truck sits at 23-23.25 inches in the back which leads me to believe the previous owner put an AAL back there. The shocks I got say that they can accommodate a 0-1 inch lift in the back. Are these ok to use? The only reason I ask is that I have seen the same part number 5100s on different websites saying that they can accommodate 0-1 inch but also 0-2 inches on some other places. 4-wheel parts and Bilstein lifts both say that I can go ahead and use the 0-1 inch and I will be fine but toytec says that I should go with their 0-2 inch ones. Right now, the stock shocks are being used and have been fine for a lot of miles so that leads me to believe I should be fine with the 0-1 inch but I am just confused now. Seems to me that the same part number is being marketed as both 0-1 inch and 0-2 inch lift friendly on different sites. If anyone knows please help! I need to know if I should return the ones I bought and buy the toytec 0-2 inch ones. Sucks not knowing exactly what the previous owner threw on there!

    Thanks!

To me it looks like the previous owner added a leaf. If you have an 08, they came from the factory with the 3 leaf pack. It looks like the leaf on top of the overload was added. The second one from the bottom.
That is just my opinion and everyone knows what they say about opinions...
As far as the shock you could compare the length of the 5100 and the stocker side by side and if they are the same I don't see why it wouldn't work since you have been running a stock shock all this time.
    Good luck!

^^What he said. That one on top of the overload looks like an AAL. You'll be just fine with that 0-1" 5100.

Thanks man! I think it's an aal also. I mean why else would my ride height be 23.25, right? That can't be stock and it's not included in the lead pack clips.

I'll roll with it! Seems to me like the same part is being labeled as 0-1 inch and 0-2 inches on different web sites so I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm thinking the 2.5 inch clip setting to level everything out. This seem correct? I'll also add a diff drop when going that high. Thanks for the reply!

No problem! Here's my recommendation though. If you're already planning on disassembling the front suspension, you should put the clip on 0 and replace your factory springs with some OME 885s. Only $167 on Amazon and it will get you 2.5" of lift (assuming you're a double cab) and the ride will be much smoother.

I really want to get the OME 885 coils, but my budget doesnt really permit that right now. I am thinking when I need new tires i am going to run some 32's or 33's and probably go with the 885s and run them on the stock height setting. Thanks for finding that though! I will definitely look there in the future when I upgrade my coils. My truck rides like crap right now from the leaking/blown shocks I am just excited to get the 5100s in there ASAP. Snow driving is no fun with crappy suspension haha. That being said, I am going to have to go with the 2.5 inch setting. Do you still think that should level out my truck nicely? Thanks!

That should be fine! If it were me, I would go with the 1.75 setting. It'll still keep a slight factory style rake, yet ride a bit better. Putting them at 2.5 will give you a real rough ride.

Perfect, I will probably do that! would you recommend a diff drop for even a 1.75 inch lift?
