What ham do you have? Rugged is local and will unlock it and program it for you. As randy said, CHiRP software with the cord can easily be used to program a handheld. I'm sure there's a way to do it to a hard mounted unit.

As for being able to listen and not transmit, @ForcedFedTaco said it best. There's setting where you can listen only and listen and transmit. Example: handhelds. The lower frequency setting is for listening only, and the upper is for listening and transmitting. I always set them both to the same frequency to mitigate that annoying feedback noise.

I have a kenwood TM-281. Mine came "locked". After a quick YouTube search, I figured out how to "unlock" it and can now broadcast on all channels. Simple de-soldering of a tiny little chip on the board.

@dtaco06 I live on the southern-most end of LA county & they make me report to Compton, the scenery there cannot be unseen :bananadead: Had to report for 6 days last year, so count your blessings!

I think that's the one I was at a few months back. Not the worst area. Good places for lunch nearby if I recall

Ive never been summons to jury duty. Wonder if that has anything to do with being prior military. I kinda think it would be an educational experience to be selected to a serious trial and get a feel for how the judicial system works.

I've been selected before and went through 4 or 5 days i think of trial. It is pretty educational but crazy at the same time, I'd still be scared to trust my freedom with a lawyer and some jurors.

I sat for a day and did nothing. i wouldn't mind getting selected, my work pays full pay for jury duty. I actually was hoping I would be selected. 10 days of jury duty and no work. Not the worst trade off haha

I sat on a trial for a drunk male bum accused of hitting a drunk female bum on the church steps at 0300.... sorry but I had zero fucks to give about that case. Argument started over whether or not the drunk male bum was selling bootleg "Straight Outta Compton" movie TShirts or not. We'd show up at 10am, lunch would be 2 hours minimum, usually 3, and then leave between 3 and 4. Took 6 business days for the trial. Is it any wonder our system is so damn backed up!?

Ya it's stupid cases like that that should be handled differently, or not at all.
