Cool. I think you'll like it. Just remember just because you picked Samurai doesn't mean that you can't play any of the other characters. You will just be fighting for the Samurai in the larger faction war. I picked Knights but often play the Samurai. I just don't like any of the Vikings.

 

Only good vikings seem to be the bezerker (weird playstyle still) or the raider

 

I'm playing story mode now. Are there any benefits to this other than learning the combat controls better?

 

None. I wouldn't waste my time with the story mode unless you just want to finish it. If you play on hard difficulty you get an emblem for your character but it just wasn't worth it for me to play though. The story mode is there to teach you the basic moves and counters and that's about it. I recommend actually going into duels and fight that way. You can fight in duels with player vs AI if you don't want to fight against another player but I suggest fighting against someone actually playing. You will get your ass kicked for a bit but you will also learn the mechanics of the game and how to counter. Plus it's just more fun fighting against someone else. I would suggest staying away from Dominion mode for a bit until you at the very least level your character to Rep 1 and level your equipment with steel. Whatever you do, DO NOT LEVEL YOUR GEAR BEFORE HITTING REP 1. You will just be wasting your steel. Save your steel and once you hit Rep 1 start buying premium packs as you are guaranteed at least 2 rare pieces of gear per pack. You should have enough saved up to outfit your character to a higher level which will make surviving Dominion mode much easier.

In Dominion mode make sure you look at the battlefield before rushing into battle. If you see a one on one going on rush in to help your teammate. If you are getting ganked then make a run for it and go to a control zone that you hold so you can regen health. Make sure to kill the soldiers in "B" and push them back so your soldiers can advance and take over "B". Just a few tips off the top of my head.

 

Also... If you are lucky and get an execution then you will regen some of your health back. Be advised that you can still be killed while performing a execution so plan it wisely. I always execute because it's fun lol.
