Hoping for some help with an issue I have on a 98 4runner. I am very familiar with Tacoma's but have never had this issue with mine, and now I have this 4runner that seems to have an abundance of issues.

I'll start out by saying that it does need either an exhaust manifold gasket or a new manifold, but over the past few days the symptoms have gotten drastically worse to the point of wanting to stall. It feels as though there is a loss of power. 1st through 3rd gear are okay, but then going in to 4th with your foot all the way down takes forever to get up to speed. The plugs, wires, and fuel filter have been replaced already and the transmission has just been flushed (not sure it matters but didn't want to leave this out). The MAF sensor has been cleaned and air filter looks clean and it has just been sea foamed. After the sea foam it runs much better, but still has not solved the issue.

When running the codes I get one that says misfire cylinder 2 and 4 and random misfire and then another one for the o2 sensor. After running some fuel injector cleaner through it, the only code that still pulls is a misfire in cylinder 2. Does this have more to do with the injectors?

Does anyone have any more ideas of what to check next? Also, the engine has a lot of movement and a rough idle (mounts appear to be okay).

Anything that you can think to check would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance!!

    Sarah

    Here are the codes:

    P0302
    Cylinder 2 misfire
    P0300
    Random/multiple cylinder misfire

From what I can tell it appears to be more injector related but still not sure. Any thoughts?

I haven't...did you have the same sort of acceleration and loss of power issue before changing yours?

I will get those changed and see if that helps. Thank you!!

I had some unusual misfire error codes that would turn on the CEL & then reset itself. I changed out the coils & they went away.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the exact same issue as OP with the P0300 code. It's also difficult to start after sitting overnight. I'm getting about 14-15 MPG, and it's driving me nuts. So far i've:

    Seafoamed: brake booster vacuum
    Seafoamed: in gas tank
    Replaced fuel filter
Replaced spark plugs with NGK dual ground electrode
Replaced K&N drop in filter with regular filter
    Replaced Plug wires
Replaced coil pack on Cylinder 1 & 3
Replaced Charcoal canister and Evap purge valve
    Cleaned MAF
    Cleaned Throttle Body

    Any suggestions?

I did all the same things you mentioned above and it is running much better. Still a bit sluggish, but I think it has to do with the manifold being cracked.
