so I'm not a stranger to working on cars or doing easy mods. I had a 3rd gen taco that I swapped the halogen bulbs for an HID kit with igniters and stuff. Never had an issue. Loved em.
So I removed the hid kit off the taco when I got rid of it and am now the proud owner of a Trd pro 4Runner. I found that the halogens are the same as in the taco so I was gonna throw the hid kit in there but I was stopped in my tracks when I saw how the 4Runner has a "kiln" headlight bulb design.
The HIDs run crazy hot and will melt shit ( duh ). I'm sure people ave installed hid kits but I'm worried about the amount of heat produced with nowhere to go. The taco was an " open to air" design and the 4Runner has a unique little SEALED pocket that I imagine is to keep water out.
Anybody have experience installing hid kit? Any reported issues?
IF something were to happen anybody have any idea how much a headlight assembly would cost to replace at the dealer?
    Thanks guys

I've had HIDs in my 4runner. They've been there since it drove off the lot. Previous owner installed them. Never had an issue. The PO also put them in the fogs and they were obliterated.

I'm looking to put HIDs in my 4Runner trail. If anyone has recxomendations for a good plug and play kit with minimal cutting, I'd appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction. Also LED fogs and DTRL :)
Cant stand how yellow all the lights are...

Look on t4r.org. Lots of people do it.
TRS @TRSAndrew @TRSJimmy is plug and play. No cutting. Just plug the bulbs into the projectors and wire up the ballasts/ignitors. Don't do HID fogs. You will regret it.
