Never looked or cared. Wasn't like I would really pursue it even if it was for sale. Just laughed at the WTF potential of such a thing...........

Jumps are actually pretty dang smooth, it's when I come up short or too far that things start to get painful lol

a kid my son went to HS with is a Red Bull sponsored racer in the X-Games or whatever, I watched him on TV do some monster downhill jump and have his bike snap in half at the landing. That had to hurt.

Monday was a bad day. I took a bad spill on my bike and did some damage. I clipped my handlebar going about 18mph and got tossed onto a giant root on my back. I knew I was hurt but thought I could walk it off...that last all of about 5 minutes.
Ended up going to the ER due to the pain. I didn't have anything to gauge seeing that I have never broken a bone in my 34 years on this earth. They sent me in for a CT scan since I lost consciousness. Found out I broke/fractured 5 transverse process which are he small tabs of bone that stick out on either side of your vertebrae. Also have some internal bleeding around my kidney.
I know I am lucky. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery.

I was told 6-8 weeks for a full recovery depending on how much I give my back time to heal. It's pretty frustrating being a stubborn male and wanting to do everything for yourself. lol

Damn man. Glad it wasn't worse. Injury like that could have ended more than just cycling and for a lot longer than 6-8 weeks. You definitely got lucky. WhAt did you clip on? Ever since I went over mine I've noticed I purposely slow myself down on anything over 20mph. I'm glad your ok. Did the bike get as lucky or is it mangled

Got a ride in today, & some trail maintenance. I see some pretty nice mountain bike pics on a few different threads, but wondering if anybody here is into vintage MTB's? Got a growing collection of rideable bikes, and a good bit of frames. Mostly 90's, but not limited to just that decade.

Nice Bull Moose handlebars there. Somewhat near your Specialized. 87 Schwinn Hi Sierra, with roller cam brakes.

yeah, its a tank. i tossed that thing down so many gnarly trails when I was younger, it was indestructible. I even used to ride it up and down flights of stairs, the wheels were incredibly strong, heavy gauge stainless spokes, they never went out of true.

Been thinking about getting back into mountain biking after about a 10 year hiatus. Boy has technology and prices changed! Current steed is a Trek 4500 hardtail, but ive been eyeing a used 2017 Specialized camber 29er or a new trek ex 5 29er. Anybody care to comment either way? They are about the same price.

Specialized are good bikes for folks with long torsos as they tend to have a longer seat-to-stem distance. I've been very happy with every specialized bike I've owned, but Trek makes good bikes too. I'm not familiar with either of those models.

IMHO (and probably contrary to a lot of folks), I think 29er wheels are good for larger people, but smaller people would be better off with smaller wheels. 29ers also are better for high speed and less technical stuff, while 26" wheels are better on the tight gnarly single tracks. 29ers ride better over rough terrain.
