No. It's going to get used.

    Maybe some boiled linseed oil.

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
Yep no problem. Now we need to do a real strength test of that bench.

Not really a lot of money in materials, but quite a few hours into it.

    It's not going anywhere.

A sheet of galvanized is cheaper and more utilitarian in use. (doesn't show scratches) Stainless would be nice though, I have one myself.

some horribly exposed pics from the train show.
This layout is in a diorama and is a point to point rail road. All of it was hand-built by scratch.
Maximum speed on that thing was slower than a crawl.

I liked the diorama idea as it allows for artificial light and minimizes the overall layout as well as focuses you on the scene.

I didn't get a pic of the entire railroad but it consisted of 4 of these diorama scenes, that are connected and the train traveled through the individual scenes.
There were switch tracks and sidings to keep it interesting and have room to move rolling stock as needed for deliveries and such.

As you know... I don't have the space for such a decent sized bench

This one will stay like it is. I'll be using it for all sorts of stuff and prefer the wood surface.

I've got a small 2'x4' workbench I might do that to for more metal fab work, or just weld up a welding table.

I am kinda thinking I should have gone 10' as opposed to 8'. :D

I got that hand plane dialed last night. Spent as much time sharpening it as I did planing. I quite enjoyed using it.

I also cut those notches for the post with a hand saw and chisel. :D

Nice, I need to get back on that horse. Seemed almost relaxing back in the day. You sharpen with wet stone or Grind wheel?

Wet stone. I don't have much of a reason to do a lot of woodworking, but I find it very relaxing and enjoyable.

Next step to this garage/workshop process will be some french cleats behind the bench. Might need to keep Leo's table saw a little longer. Also, got a drill press on the way, and need to figure out a woodworking vise, and bench vise of reasonable quality for a decent price. Seems like it's either Chinese junk, or really expensive.

Wish I had the bench available when I started this build a couple weeks ago.

Just will have to do a new build using the work bench, aren't I helpful?

So ummm... this thread is about toy trains and my gay Prius build. Please do not divert the conversation to Young Brett's handling of beefy wood.

Anywho. Speaking of the Prius, I go to a Prius forum to learn about the car. Came across this gem of a thread today. This is the type of shiat I deal with over there.

I don't want to get banned because there is decent info there, but I almost responded, "remove the engine and gas tank... that'll reduce the weight tremendously and you'll gain significant mpgs"
