I have read some past posts about 1 quart low transmission fluid from the factory. My new 2017 Tacoma Sports runs great and shifts without any issues. No roughness, slipping, noise, clunks or anything like that. It shifts smooth. Should I still take it in to be checked? Also there isn't a tranny dip stick. I guess there is a bolt to back-away and see if any fluid drips out. Not too sure about that one..... Thanks for your reply's!

I've heard this too and am concerned. I asked on my 5000 mile service and they said I would have to make a separate appointment because the unit was sealed. Haven't done it yet, I assume they would charge me regardless of my warranty?

It's a known issue. I had mine checked at no cost (dealer actually knew about issues and wanted to check it). Your dealer should be willing to check it manually.

I say screw it, the power train here in the south east is life time warrantied with 100 deductible.

If it blows it blows, maybe they'll have an updated version by the time it happens.

    Mines a 2017 also.

Yes in the early stages of the 3rd gens rolling out there were a few issues, like low transmission fluid, much needed transmission software update, ungreased zerks, whistling control arms, all easily remedied. My 16 had a few, my 17 has been perfect. Relax and enjoy your truck!

I just requested my trans level to be checked out during the 15k service. Rep was cool said he would not charge me. However upon inspecting my paperwork at pickup it reads: "Findings: Line E. TSB for tranmission shifting. Reflash. No external trans fluid leaks. TSB does not mention check trans fluid level."
From that I conclude that they ran a diagnostics, performed the ECU reflash, and did NOT check the trans fluid.
The reflash however has made a remarkable difference in shifting. The truck picks up way better off the line, shifts are smoother and 40-60 is also noticeably quicker at responding. I like it and will run it till any issues arise that will warrant another "trans fluid check"

Am i correct to say that all the trans fluid problems are just in the auto trans?

There have been reports that the manual transmission has also been low . Wouldn't hurt to have all you fluids checked .
Differentials , transfer cases and the trans .
Here is the official low fluid thread for the automatic

Toyota states ALL FLUIDS CHECKED for Toyota care service at 5k 10k 15k 20k 25k miles....that means trans fluid too, and I won't be leaving until I physically see the techs doing it the proper way..(paint your 3 bolts to be 100% sure) ... I will wait all day if I have to for it to cool to 113*...if they don't, or won't do ALL FLUID CHECKS, Toyota corporate will be getting a call from me about them not checking ALL FLUIDS and I will want an explanation as to why they are not sticking to their own words and honoring a check of ALL FLUIDS....and me and my truck will stay at the dealer until it's ALL done. I don't see how they are charging anyone for this seperately, and if you're paying for it, you're goofy.

having simple maintenance checks shouldn't have to be so difficult.

It will be, you know it will..... the dealerships do not want the burden of this check tying up their bays all day when they aren't making money .

I think it is something that only certain dealerships offer. The dealership I bought mine from here in the Southeast offers the lifetime powertrain warranty as well on all new vehicles they sell, but you have to have records that all of the factory recommended service was performed, and the warranty is non-transferable. They basically use it as a marketing tactic, as they're banking on you selling the vehicle before you'd ever need to use the warranty; I'd also be willing to bet that is actually what happens in most cases.

OP - enjoy your truck! If you start noticing issues then get the fluid level checked, or check it yourself, its not difficult at all if you follow the write-up on here.
