I just scored an Arizona-native '01 Taco Ext cab 4x4 5spd, 146k and with ZERO RUST:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:. I'll be bringing it to Vermont next week and plan to have it undercoated as soon as I get home, but I was wondering where on the frame I should be on the look out for rust issues? I heard its in the rear where the leaf spring meets the frame? Anywhere else?

Since this is an '01, it's outside the 15-yr warranty window for frame replacement, so I'm hoping to keep the rust at bay with generous coatings, but want to make sure I'm focusing the coating in the most critical areas of the frame.

    Thanks!

I would concentrate on the inside of the frame then the outside, every "boxed area". Here are some pictures of the frame that was just removed from my 04. I added text to the pictures that may not be clear of which area they are

Suspension, 33s, some armor... Rust, Gray wire and 2Low, and more. T4r is stock.
The real key is treating inside the frame. They rot from inside out and yes the most common trouble spot is at the spring hangers. If I had a rust free frame I'd get it professionally treated. Then Fluid Film it every year before winter sets in.

Thanks guys - how do you treat inside the frame? I assume there are holes to insert a wand or something...

yes I plan to have it professionally treated - these guys seem to take it pretty seriously

4 or 6 bolts, wiring for the tail lights and filler tube for the gas tank, takes about 30 minutes and a friend to help lift off
