Sorry if I posted this in the incorrect sub-forum but I'm on the hunt for a 2014+ Tacoma, preferably DBCB, and I THINK I've found a good deal ~3 hours from me...

It's a sliver 2014 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Prerunner with 25,740 Miles. Dealer says it was bought at auction from WV as a lease trade in.

They are asking $20,998+TTL (est. ~$22,751 OTD)

It's one of those "wholesale to the public, low over head, no haggle price" type of used dealers but my biggest concern is the fact they've had the truck for ~120 days without a sale. Seems like a good deal for a DBCB pre-runner with low miles, so why has it been sitting so long?

I'm planning to go look/drive it Saturday and would like some advice on the major things to look/listen/feel for specific to the Taco and whether the price seems fair?

    Link to the truck: http://www.pricepro.co/used/Toyota/2014-Toyota-Tacoma-10d9dd9b0a0e0a175837ce589d84125a.htm

Every vehicle I have ever bought...
I take for a "test drive" right over to a reputable garage or dealer to get a full inspection.
Usually cost me between $50-100 and I leave with a print out if each problem and the cost to repair each.
Then I negotiate for seller to fix issues or deduct from the price Ive researched is reasonable.
That is the only way I buy used.

At the end of the day we are talking about a DCLB PRerunner with a a 4 cylinder. That trim level isnt in huge demand in general, so that may speak to the 120 days. Also, it has average miles for that year, I wouldn't consider that low mileage. There is probably nothing wrong with the truck, its just not many people want a 2+ ton truck without 4 wheel drive and a 4 cyclinder.

There is a Toyota dealer a couple miles down the road, I was considering taking it over to have it checked out.

The only reason for the double cab is I need to have 2 car seats and I get the impression that it's a no-go in an access cab.

I had Toyota check mine out.
Had bunch of stuff they fixed on sellers dime some big like clutch..a/c ect... then they gave me new frame once I purchased.

The good thing about going to dealership or competition is they will not hold back to tell you problems..
They want to sell you one off their lot.
In my case they told me strait out to buy mine because price and condition couldn't be beat by them.

When we were shoping for my truck it had been sitting on the lot for 3 months or so despite low mileage and being V6. After a test drive and negotiation we decided to pull the trigger. I have since put 4K miles on it and have absolutely no regrets!

Based on the photos that truck is a DCSB so you're only getting a 5 foot bed. I'd definitely test drive the 4 cylinder to make sure the engine will suite your needs. Bring a couple adults with you on the test drive so you'll get a feel of what it's like with some weight in the cab.

I drive a 4cyl (access cab) and with three adults and a 14yrs old.
I do not notice the difference driving alone.

The price is on par considering this trim level and engine combo sold for around 24-25k new. Keep in mind its also in northern OHIO. Many folks (myself included) do not want to deal with owning a 2wd pick up during the winter months.

Also the front grill has been swapped out for chrome grill from a SR5. If you do plan on buying pay close attention to the front end area for collision repair.

I live in southwest Ohio, so winter is not as big of an issue... only 2-3x a year that the roads are actually bad.

Excellent observation, I did request the carfax from the dealer, hopefully they'll send it over.

You better do some hard thinking when it comes to biting the bullet on a 4 cylinder 2wd truck.

I see threads popup frequently, with such titles such as " How to convert 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel", " I wish I bought a 4X4, now what?", " Should I get the 4L V6 or the 4 cylinder".

I'm already taking a 5-6 MPG hit on the 4cyl vs my current car, I'd like to avoid the additional 3-4mpg loss 4x4 and V6 gets you.

I don't plan on taking the truck on much more than gravel roads, or towing any heavy toys.

If you're deadset of this config are you willing to bump up a few grand to buy new? this body and engine combo runs so much better with new 6 speed auto and 4.30 rearend vs the 2nd gen 4 speed and 3.55 rearend I4 prerunner DCSB.

The 2.7 doesn't get exceptional mileage, but did everything I asked for it.

    There is no DCLB 2.7.

Mine was worth $300 less than what I paid for it new when it got totaled 3 weeks ago. At the end of the day, I paid $24,800 new for a DCSB 2.7 auto SR5. I drove it for 57k miles and 4 years later, with my mods included, got a total loss payout of just shy of $30,000.

    Not sure if serious.

The truck he linked has 4.10s, not 3.55s. All 2.7 6 lug autos had 4.10 gear ratios.
