The only things I've seen about disconnects is it won't work like it does on Jeeps. Something about the swaybar can still hit other things and mess up stuff.

I've seen some quick disconnects on jeeps that rotate the swaybars out of the way.
    :notsure:
Has anyone even tried to make one work?

I plan to. There are lots of folks who are absolutely certain that removing the swaybar a will either result in fiery death or is the safest thing in the world. And they aren't afraid to spread the gospel. Let's post up some videos of controlled tests and get to the bottom of it.

I'm working on something. I got a spare sway bar to do a mockup and some testing. I'll make a thread if I'm successful. If I'm not, this post never happened!

    Yes. Many times.

Someone made some for the FJ.

I spoke to someone recently who had credible claims of succeeding on the 2nd gen Tacoma about ten years ago, but decided to not market the product.

A responsible fabrication business making a sway bar disconnect for our trucks requires them to carry expensive insurance in the event their product causes problems.

Jerry at BAMF looked into this and decided it wasn't worth the time/money expense.

And to elaborate and speculate, I think the reason there will never be a sway bar disconnect for our trucks is because it's not possible to easily modify the stock sway bar. It would have to a custom made which would be expensive. And second to that, most people with modified suspensions have stiffer springs than stock. IMO, this helps in the turns. So what happens, is A.) modified suspension B.) People run sans sway bar C.) People live with it. And that's that. At least that's my story. :)

If I could buy a custom solution I would.

SOrry for the off-topic. If I can do the OP's test I will, but will not video it. I would share the results though. lol

It would have to be a complete sway bar that somehow split apart. On Rubicon Wranglers, they have an electronic swaybar disconnect, but there is no where that the mechanicals for it would fit on a Tacoma. It would totally be possible to make something like that for a Tacoma, but it would most likely be expensive enough that not many people would buy it.

The main issue is it's spring steel, and unless it's manufactured for a collar system like Jeep's use it's pretty difficult to mod it so it won't fatigue/ fail.

Sway bar came off today! Definitely feels different. But I think those 886s will keep me steady

Curious how many of the other tested vehicles had rear sway bars. Where as the Tacoma has none.

I would like to perform this test. To supercede their fastest tested speed.

This is what I made, and was gonna try. Cr-Mo steel. Never got around to it. Just ditched the swaybar instead. Another problem is the limited space where the split would go.

I don't do any off roading, my truck is a street queen. I took my sway bar off and love it.

For anyone wondering, I get more body roll with my 5100's set at 1.75" compared to when I had them at the 2.5" setting.

I think the people who discourage removal have never given it a fair try or have done so with stock springs and/or shocks. End of thread.

Why would you want more body roll on a street truck?

I'll have one available within the next day or so. I'm planning to do 3 runs. 25mph, 35mph and if I feel safe enough, 45mph.
