Help need all new exhaust on my 1997 extra cab

Ok so love this site and was here years ago since this 1997 extra cab Tacoma has only been owned by me since new!!! Hell ya!!! Anyway did search here and no luck, but some moron cut off the catalytic converter exactly where I need to pretty much replace the whole thing. Did a fast piecemeal job just before cold so I'm looking for a "decent" aftermarket the right lengths. OE will be way over but a total of $800 I can do-that's with new O2's and downpipe.

looks like you need new 2nd cat (can't tell if there is one above that flange) and mid-pipe

 

You can find an aftermarket cat for $50 of any diameter. I think stock is 2.25". Having a shop weld it in shouldn't be over $150 including extra pipe.

And that's pretty funny. What's the story? Someone stole it? Door to door in the night with a sawsall stocking up on cats?

 

Yeah they hit a lot of people frizzman for the cat(heard it on the news even though they were located 100ish mikes north). There are 2 O2's and the rest cut is too close to the weld so I chopped it and saved that one before the rig job. The other cut they did is on a curved part of the pipe. Anyway it took em about 5-10 minutes max to get it cut while I was in a Dr.'s parking lot-no cameras. When I look at aftermarket parts they don't say for base, 4x4, or extra cab so it kinda messes up what to get and where. The funny part is that it took about 8 stupid small pieces just to fill that length for now, there wasn't any other way w snow coming a few months back. Runs like crap without a cat maybe a back pressure deal? I do know the pipes are 2 1/4" as you said so working on buying it all piecemeal if some site explains exactly what model it's for! Thanks for the input, thought someone may have done this already here(read a few about how much exhaust work sucked and other issues putting it all in).

If the pictures are what was cut it will be pretty easy to patch. You don't need any special type of cat unless you're in CA. Just bring that cat to a muffler shop and have them weld it up

 

Thanks Clay I'll look through summit but I know it'll be 10x's easier with a cat that has the flanges and they're out there. Hate throwing a ton of $ on a pipe set and it's not even for a 4x4! All my looking has been useless so far in that respect. I think when they sawzalled it they may have loosened up the downpipe. The cat itself really needs the hanger brackets already on. I'll update sometime if I find the right parts for others. What a PITA!

As said, an exhaust shop should be able to install a new universal cat on the cheap with the proper hangers. Save yourself the time and effort

This fits my '04 V6 4wd. ext cab "base" or "prerunner" should work (ext cab engine/mounting points are normally the same whether 4wd/Pre or 2wd)

 

I use all Walker Exhaust

It bolts up nice is not overly expensive

I look up my Part Numbers on Walkers Site then shop around for the best price to the door

One needs to look at shipping costs every time

 

One thing I did learn over the years is don`t try and Mix Exhaust manufactures parts unless you plan on custom making some parts .

It seems there is sometimes a slight difference enough to cause major frustration and stringing new combinations of words together
