The dealer fixed mine on my latest trip. I only had to tell them 4 times in a row. They used a black adhesive instead of the crappy white stuff.

The only time I notice hood vibration on my 2015 (as others have also stated) is in the drying section of touchless car washes or on exceptionally windy days (even then just a bobble). It's a pretty heavy hood (2nd gen) so I don't think it should be wobbling or bobbling at low speeds.

Granted every scenario and vehicle are different.

EDIT: Didn't see this was in 3rd gen discussion as I replied from my home page (sorry rookie mistake)

I have hood flutter on my 2016. It was noticed at speeds above 65mph or lower speed into wind. The adhesive mounts were visibly cracked and broken. I took it in to Toyota they did not have an official fix, got guidance from higher level to have sourced to body shop. Adhesive applied. They offered to paint it - I declined as the secondary effects of overspray are more irritating to me then discolored adhesive that is on the underside of my hood.
This repair happened monday, no hood flutter on my drives since then. I'm disappointed I had to take the time to go through this, worry about it, and deal with it. That being said it appears to be fixed, despite non-official fix I'm happy and if its an isolated event and truck continue to run.
The only regret I have now is the cvt quality of the transmission ;)

Any idea if the Hood Flutter is only on Mexican or American Tacoma's or both?

I would imagine you will find it sporadically on both. I am sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but there are really two issues with the non scooped hoods. The first issue is the glue (which has been discussed at length in this thread) and the second is the super thin material Toyota and others are using for sheet metal. Even a perfectly glued hood may show some slight vibration at high speeds and in tunnel washes because there are unsupported areas where wind and road vibration will cause some resonance. The second type seems more and more common on newer vehicles where mfgs are trying to save weight and would probably go unnoticed if you weren't specifically looking for it.

I tend to drive a lot of different vehicles for work and have started looking for the second type of vibration on vehicles and have noticed it on several cars lately. The worst offender was a new GMC Canyon and it was a pretty violent flutter. I googled the issue and apparently GM will spray expanding foam in certain places to fix the issue, but, like Toyota, some dealers aren't doing it right and causes bulges. The second worst offender was a Mercedes GLA. Again, I googled the issue and found some posts where people are complaining about it but didn't see where anyone got it fixed. The third vehicle I drove where I noticed a flutter was an Acura MDX. It had a pretty decent flutter and google indicates there is a TSB to add glue.

Just thought this was an observation worth sharing for those ready to jump off a ledge.

Betting a bug guard would make this much worse. I have no glue issues on my 2nd gen but the oem bug guard thing on front made the hood dance at frwy speeds. Took it off for several reasons and not even a twitch from the hood now.

I have a Stampede Hood Deflector on mine (again 2nd gen like yours) with no issues at highway speeds. I really have to look in order to find any movement. Mine is made in Mexico assembled in Baja, CA. Maybe I just got lucky (with the deflector design I chose), I know this is directed towards 3rd gens though.

My 3rd gen sucked. It was a wavy piece of crap at 65mph.

On my hood they actually removed the skeleton and used the upgraded bonding material and repainted the underside took 4 days. I would not be happy with that drwx had done on his hood. The hood should look like as good or better than when it came from factory.

I glued mine using the 3M dampening material that people mentioned in this thread. I basically glued it everywhere to the skeleton. But as Matts11 mentioned, the sheet metal is too thin, so I can still see it move every day.... gonna have to stop worrying about it.

I'm just happy they didn't use more of the same crappy white adhesive that looks like chewed gum. It doesn't look perfect, but it's the under side of the hood and is good enough for me.

This is rubbish. Firstly, I don't think it is even possible to separate the sheet metal from the skeleton as the edges are rolled, so the dealer may have misled you on what they did. Second, who cares what the underside of the hood looks like? I am anal about my cars but seriously, you have to accept some imperfections in a vehicle. I bet the finish on the underside of your hood is now glossier than original

Well, you are correct matts11, sorry I, failed to describe it correctly. I don't believe they would have separated the entire skeleton, but from what I could see and the information given to me from the body shop foreman, the bonding material they they use from factory was removed. When the repair was completed, paint looked exactly like factory (no clear on paint). They don't have to go to the extent they did with my hood, but all I know is they did a excellent job, and I was extremely happy with the work. Imperfection are expected with any vehicle, my 2017 has lots of paint missing in the box area where I relocated the cargo mount system to add my box cover. I can accept the missing paint, as I am the one who relocated the tracks. My thought is when it is poor workmanship on the manufactures part and the vehicle is new, it should be fixed like it never happened. :)

I highly doubt anyone would even look at the adhesive if they weren't a member of this forum. I'm fine with how the black stuff looks.

Should I have asked them to dirty up my new leaf springs too so that they look like the rest of the bottom of the truck? Those shiny leafs are more noticeable than the adhesive under the hood.

you pretty much ask yourself...... "if my hood weren't vibrating, would i know what the adhesive looks like"..... i can't tell you what the hood adhesive looks like on any of the vehicles i've ever owned. i only know what it looks like on the taco because of the hood vibrating. if/when i trade it in, they aren't gonna look.. they likely wouldn't even notice a vibration in the hood.

The hood adhesive would not be noticed by anyone and they most would most likely not care. I know that I really wouldn't care. It really doesn't matter now as your hood has been repaired. I hope you are enjoying your truck.

Going in for 10k/1 yr service in June - hoping I get lucky and get a new hood. If I get the same run around "durr we drove another truck on the lot and it did the same thing, so it's not a problem." I will just use the NHV.

Has anyone who NHV'd seen negative effects such as depressions or high spots? How did you apply it? Did you get the foam going and stick the nozzle far into the void space? Did you apply pressure to any of the framing?

Did you scrape off the existing adhesive, including those which did not appear to have failed?

So you guys are saying if I take my truck in with a flexing hood they will replace it?

Mine does move but I just deal with it
