    Hello everyone.

Many of you may be aware of the huge diesel emissions scandal with Volkswagen. My 2015 Golf TDI is one of those affected vehicles. I have 2 options. Keep my car and get it fixed, also receive a cash payout. Or.. let Volkswagen buy back my vehicle at what it was worth September 2015, and also receive a cash payment.

The buyback option is to good to refuse for me. I need a reliable vehicle that's good for all conditions as I am an essential employee and must report no matter the weather. The Tacoma seems to be the best option for me(minus the MPG, which I am well aware of).

I'm probably going with the 2017 off-road with a manual transmission. What paint colors would you recommend that would be best for resisting road rash/ chips. I currently have a black car. 48k highway miles later and the paint on the front end is freckled beyond belief. The Tacoma should be slightly more resistant just for the fact it's higher off the ground.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

Color will be whatever OR you can find in a manual. Better start looking now. Toyota offers a exterior package that comes with these clear bras on the hood and leading edges. I also have the pro ceramic coating which seems to help with rock chips along with the rather useless side steps. The side steps and mud flaps help with rock dings very well .

I own a Super White and it hides imperfections nicely.

Usually white or gray hides regular road damage the best. Got super white on mine and scratches/paint chips from rocks don't show up super well.

I have Silver Sky and it hides dirt well - you can't tell how filthy it is until you're right up next to it. I've only had it about a month, so we'll see how it holds up over time. I know mine has those clear films on the leading edges of the rear fender flares, but I don't think they're on the front fenders or hood.

any paint is going to chip and scratch for sure, so just get the color that speaks to you the most and pick up a color-matched touch-up and clear coat pen if it bothers you. in my experience, the paint seems pretty weak without any other protection on my SSM, but since it's silver it just doesn't show up very much. and...as most will say, its a truck. the scratches are trophies :)

I also took advantage of VW mess up and bought a 17 off road a few weeks ago. Silver will hold up but I really liked the MGM look. You'll love the truck, gas mileage is decent for what it is. I do not miss my TDi Jetta one bit

White overall is the lowest maintenance from my experience. Silver would probably be a close second but only because it looks so dull and boring once it gets a bit of dust on it. I have had red, blue, white, pearl "tri-coat" white and black vehicles. Definitely stay away from the black unless you want a full time job keeping it looking nice. The darker MGM (grey) will also show a lot of swirl marks/scratches but looks nice cleaned up.

Is there a way to keep your car and not get it fixed? Chances are the fix will be like a band-aid just to get the car to pass and take a hit on economy and reliability. I imagine it gets pretty good fuel economy as it is.

Some people I know are worried about the resale if their diesel Volkswagen. If I was buying one that would be the one I would buy that has not been fixed. Unless you are forced to but I do not have emissions where I live.

I had the same VW issue. I had a 2012 Golf TDI that I am turning back in on March 8. I bought a '17 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 witht eh manual trans in Quicksand and tech package about 2 weeks ago and I love it. Not sure about the road chips though. My VW was white and not road chips. This truck...haven't had it long enough to say.

Quicksand or silver. Both hide dirt and scratches very well. Mine is QS and in pollen season, mine is the only vehicle that looks clean, lol. QS has no metal flake in it, so it's not difficult to touch up small chips, and I think looks better. It's also just different enough of a color that it's not the usual tan other cars have.
