Just note that as cited earlier (this thread or elsewhere) it is apparently an increasing issue across all manufacturers.

Yes, the article I posted mentions several manufacturers, foreign and domestic.

I do not think anyone ever said it was a Toyota only issue, the Enviro-Nazi's are the ones forcing this stuff on Companies.

Its so funny to watch the evolution of this thread, first people immediately jump on Toyota as if OP deserves a brand new car before even knowing what happened, then they found out it wasn't Toyotas fault so now they blame the "enviro Nazis" it must be their fault!!!

Come on people not everything that happens in life is someone else's fault, shit happens and sometimes no one is at fault.

Rats eating cars is nothing new at all, a simple date capped google search will show you thousand of articles about rats eating car wiring going back to way before the internet was even invented. Rodents seek warmth and engine bays provide that, once in there they will chew on ANYTHING rather its soy based or not.

Funny little side story at my dealership in San Diego we've always had a slight rat problem, at least a 5-6 times a year we're repairing new, used or customer cars that got damaged by rodents. It used to actually be a bigger problem, until we stopped chasing away the stray cats that live behind our dealership. Now I place water bowls and cat food out everyday for our furry companions, they've made a home in the bushes behind our service dept. Ever since I started feeding the cats we haven't had a single car damaged by rodents :)

Edit: stepped outside my office and took a quick pic of one of our resident rodent hunters. This one's name is "lug nut", he's currently defending a brand new Pilot Elite that just arrived, while also enjoying breakfast, I don't think he got any kills last night so he's hungry :)

Some of the posts on this thread and the other have come across in a way that could be misinterpreted by folks looking in. I posted solely to ensure clarity.

Nice. So long as they don't climb up on the vehicles.

Outdoor cats don't last long near my home these days; we have a pretty substantial coyote population and they're the cause of many lost cat / lost (small) dog signs.

Ya the best part, lawyers make tons forcing this shit to happen, the lawyers make tons saying that shit fucked everything up, now fix it.

Do you have issues with the rodent hunters walking on the vehicles. I know mine keeps tagging my truck with his paws every freaking day.

Nah there so much action going on the cats don't get too settled in, they'll cross over the fence to get some food but they don't actually hang out on the cars or inside of them or we'd be chasing them away again. There was however one time a cat had a bunch of kittens and one of the kittens wandered over to our storage lot and got ran over by a transport truck, it was aweful :(
